Theme: Impact Through Communication

At Word Stars, we see the impact of communication every single day. 💛

Through purposeful and engaging therapy, our team supports children to express themselves in ways that are true to who they are. When children are empowered to use their authentic voice, the impact is felt not just by them, but by their families, friends, and communities.

We also make an impact by working with children’s environments—partnering with early childhood educators, teachers, and families to build capacity and create supportive spaces. Advocacy is a big part of what we do, ensuring children’s communication strengths and needs are understood and championed wherever they are.

📚✨ It’s Book Week! A perfect time to celebrate the power of stories for language development!

Our therapist Julia recently teamed up with to create a video all about reading with older children and building vocabulary through books.

In the video, Julia shares simple, practical tips to make reading time meaningful and fun—helping children learn new words while enjoying stories together. 💛

🌟 Clinical Education in Action 🌟

One of the most rewarding parts of Mike’s role as a therapist at Word Stars is supporting the next generation of speech pathologists. This term, Mike has been mentoring Jacqueline, a UTS speech pathology student, as she gains hands-on experience in our clinic.

From guiding her through real-life sessions to co-leading our storytelling group, Mike has loved watching Jacqueline’s skills and confidence grow. 💛

💻 Last week, our wonderful therapist Amelia spent 3 full days deepening her skills through More Than Words® training.

This program focuses on early intervention strategies—particularly for young Autistic children—and places strong emphasis on parent collaboration and coaching.

Amelia is excited to bring these new insights into her sessions, working alongside families to support children’s communication in meaningful, everyday moments. 💛

💻✨ Meet Julia – our Telehealth superstar! ✨💻

Julia is an experienced speech pathologist who works with school-aged children and adolescents from anywhere – not just in Western Sydney!

Through Telehealth, she delivers both individual and group therapy sessions that are engaging, interactive, and effective.

One of her specialties? Group programs designed to boost functional written communication skills – from crafting clear paragraphs to writing different text types such as information reports and persuasive pieces.

Wherever you are, Julia can help your child build the skills and confidence they need to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.

🤝 Group Therapy Spotlight Week – Social Group 🧠

Continuing our spotlight on our high-quality group therapy programs, today we’re proud to feature our Social Group—a program developed with input from neurodivergent adults, for neurodivergent children.

These groups support children to:
🌟 Understand their own neurotype and sensory preferences
🧘‍♂️ Tune into body feelings and emotions
🔄 Practise perspective-taking through social play
💬 Explore authentic communication in safe, affirming ways

But we don’t stop there—our Social Groups also focus on communication partners and environments. We work closely with families and schools to build understanding and create supportive spaces where each child can thrive 💛
