As with many health problems, GORD is not a simple problem with an easy solution. The medications for acid reflux have a poor track record, and in many cases they don't work at all. What people don't realize is that acid reflux is often a sign of poor digestion - as Hippocrates said "All disease begins in the gut". Most conventional treatments focus on symptomatic relief, which of course is a band-aid approach and overlooks the underlying causes....

You know what's better than saying "this food is good for you"? Tell them what foods do in their body! Why do I keep sharing this message? Because we keep selling our kids short labeling foods and good/bad, healthy/unhealthy. Here are some examples of messages I like for different ages:
⁣⠀⠀
For 2-3yo kids I usually break it down by color. Although it's not 100% accurate, it’s a good framework to get started. ⁣⠀⠀
❤️ Red: gives you a strong heart⁣⠀⠀
🧡 Orange: helps you see in the dark⁣⠀⠀
💛Yellow: helps your body heal cuts⁣⠀⠀
💚Green: gives you super powers to fight off sickness⁣⠀⠀
💜💙Blue and Purple: Give you a strong brain⁣⠀⠀
💟White: gives you energy⁣⠀⠀
⠀
For 4s and 5s you can start being more specific - like carrots and sweet potatoes help you be able to see in the dark. Clementines help your skin heal cuts. Broccoli helps your night vision, your skin heal, AND your bones be strong.⠀
⠀
For 4s/5s and 6s you can introduce the idea that some foods do a lot of things in their bodies and some foods do a few things.⠀
⠀
For 6s and 7s you can introduce the concept of vitamins and minerals - tell them HOW carrots protect their night vision (via vitamin A). Learn about the body.⠀
⠀
For 8s and 9s - learn even more about different things in foods. ⠀
⠀
And so on.⠀
⠀
All the while, model the way you want your kids to eat in your home and serve them the balanced diet you want them to eat. That's more powerful than anything you could ever tell them.⠀
⠀
If you need help getting your child to try new foods, my free child eating guide 🔥 From Stress to Success - 4 Ways to Help Your Child Eat Better without Losing Your Mind is in my bio .eat.in.color⠀

Having been a consultant Naturopath for 28 years now, I find that one of the most common underlying complaints I see in clients – ranging from those in the corporate world to those coping with being a busy parent – is the feeling of having too much to cope with. The end result is that they feel exhausted but also irritable and on edge. [ 845 more words ]

Does this remind you of anything? We talk about the Doctrine of Signatures in a herbal medicine, where a plant looks like the condition it is used to treat. This is Bidens pilosa, a common w**d also called Farmer’s Friends or Cobbler’s Pegs. Whilst it doesn’t have antiviral action that I know of, it is one of the herbs we use to help protect the cilia of the lungs, which the Corona virus attacks.

So what other foods are rich in Vitamin C?
Fruits high in Vitamin C include strawberries, guavas, kiwi fruit, papaya and citrus fruits. The fresher, the higher the Vitamin C content.
Many of our Australian native plants are also high in Vitamin C such as Quandong, wild tomatoes, desert limes and Billygoat Plum (also known as Kakadu Plum or Vitamin C Tree). Billygoat Plum is extremely high in Vitamin C, with about 60 times the Vitamin C content of oranges.

One of my favourite quotes is by Louis Pasteur “The pathogen is nothing, the terrain is everything”. What does this mean?

Andrographis is one of our key immune stimulating herbs that has direct antiviral actions. Echinacea has also been used for many years for it’s immunoenhancing properties and has been shown to protect cells from pathogenic invasion.

How does Vitamin C work? How does it enhance immune function? Vitamin C is most concentrated in the white blood cells of the body, the cells responsible for destroying bacteria and viruses. Vitamin C acts as an inactivator of viruses by reducing oxygen molecules, which in turn attack the nucleic acid of the virus. This same mechanism is used against bacteria. The adrenal glands also require high amounts of Vitamin C, especially when the body is under stress. So extra vitamin C is needed if you are stressed to keep the white blood cells as well as the adrenal glands topped up.

Vitamin C is one of the most important nutrients for our immune systems, and when the body is under stress the vitamin C levels decline in the white blood cells, so your requirement will be even higher. So with vitamin C supplements in short supply, what foods can we eat to get this essential nutrient?
Vitamin C is one of our most sensitive vitamins to heat and cold - it starts to break down as soon as the fruit or vegetable is picked and once something has been cooked or in cold storage for a long time (most supermarket citrus), there will not be much vitamin C left. So fresh is best!
Rocket or parsley freshly picked from the garden are extremely high, as are citrus fruits picked straight from the tree or from a local supplier. Also high in vitamin C is capsicum. Make sure you leave the white pith on capsicums and citrus as this contains bioflavonoids, which are essential in the utilisation of vitamin C in the body.

Olive oil and olive leaf extract help protect the cilia of the respiratory tract, which the Corona virus specifically targets.

The Corona Virus enters the body's cells using the ACE2 receptor. There are various herbs that protect the ACE2 receptor by blocking the attachment of the virus - this is the action of constituents in the herbs called Lectins.
Herbs that protect ACE2 from virus attachment include Licorice, Elder Berry (Sambucus) and Cinnamon.

Sleep is important for your immune system as well as your general wellness. Most people have a more relaxed schedule now - use it as a bit of sleep catch up time. If your body wants to sleep, then sleep. If you need to rest, then rest.
