B6 Toxicity Facts and Figures
Dietary supplements exploded in popularity in the 1970s and 1980s, with vitamins widely promoted as a way to boost health, energy and longevity.
Not long after, doctors began reporting nerve damage linked to high-dose vitamin B6 (pyridoxine).
In 1983, researchers published one of the first documented reports showing that large doses of vitamin B6 could cause sensory neuropathy, leading to symptoms such as tingling, burning and numbness in the hands and feet.
Many people still don’t realise that vitamin B6 — found in common multivitamins, magnesium blends and energy supplements — can cause peripheral neuropathy.
My own journey with B6 toxicity — the symptoms, misdiagnoses and eventual diagnosis — is shared in my book B6 Toxicity and Me.
