👁️ It is very common to get things like dust, dirt, or an eyelash in your eye, but do you know how to safely remove it?

🛑 Do not rub your eye to remove the object.
ℹ️ Rubbing your eye can cause further damage by scratching the cornea, which can lead to infection or scarring.

Your eye will water to try and flush the object out, but if this doesn’t remove it you should:
▪️ Wash your hands with soap and warm water.
▪️ Flush your eye with sterile saline solution or clean cool water.
▪️ If this doesn’t work, cover your eye and visit your GP.

If you have a serious eye injury you should seek urgent medical attention.

Parents, carers and guardians take note! Babies and children need to be watched carefully during heat waves as they can overheat and dehydrate quickly. Follow these tips:

- breastfeed or bottle-feed babies more often
- offer children water regularly
- dress them in cool clothing
- protect them from the sun with hats and sunscreen
- never leave them in the car
- if your child is sick (fever, vomiting, diarrhoea, or even a mild cold), they need extra attention to ensure they remain well hydrated and don’t overheat. See your GP if your child is unwell or call 000 in an emergency.

When out shopping, remember to keep 1.5 metres from others and stay COVID safe.

Wash your hands often and use hand sanitiser when out and about.

Consider online shopping, avoid crowded shopping centres, and try to shop at off-peak times.

And if you can’t physically distance, it is strongly recommended you wear a face mask and minimise time spent inside shops.

If unwell, please don’t go shopping. Stay home and get tested immediately.
