Information about Lynch Syndrome is consistently developing and the growing statistics of Pancreatic Cancer for people with Lynch is substantial enough to place this cancer on the list. Please be informed and inform family members both those that are tested and those that have not. This knowledge could save a life. Also keep in contact with your genetic councillor with updated family cancers as this contributes to their research.

Lynch syndrome is an inherited condition due to a gene fault that increases a person’s risk of developing certain types of cancer. What is Lynch syndrome? When a person has Lynch syndrome, it means that a gene involved in repairing specific DNA errors does not work properly. As a result, DNA damag...

This International Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day (22 March), Bowel Cancer Australia is encouraging all Australians to better understand their bowel cancer family history and for all newly diagnosed patients to speak with their treating specialist about having their tumour tested for mismatch repair deficiency as a means to subsequently identify Lynch syndrome.

Lynch syndrome can affect the best choice of treatment options for bowel cancer patients, and also has preventative health and screening implications for family members.

It is the most common genetic condition that increases a person’s risk of developing bowel cancer and is caused by a change in a gene that normally functions to protect a person from getting cancer.

In families where there is a clear history of Lynch Syndrome, screening with colonoscopy every 1 to 2 years usually commences from age 25 or 5 years earlier than the youngest affected family member if they were diagnosed under 30, whichever comes first.

If you have been diagnosed with bowel cancer, ensure your treating specialist performs the test that could help determine if your cancer may have been genetically inherited.

Today is Lynch Syndrome Awareness Day.
Lynch syndrome is a genetic condition that increases a person's risk for certain cancers. It is the most common inherited cause of colorectal and endometrial cancers. People with Lynch syndrome have a defect in a gene that helps repair damaged DNA, which can lead to the development of cancerous cells. Many individuals with a Lynch mutation develop related cancers at very early ages, much younger than the general population. People with Lynch syndrome may be advised to undergo regular cancer screening tests starting at a younger age to detect cancer early, when it is most treatable.

🔵 1 in 279 people are Lynch positive

🔴 95% of them do not know it

🟡 People with Lynch Syndrome have a 50% chance of
passing the mutation on to their children

🟢 Know your family history
