⚠️ Scam Awareness Notice ⚠️

We’ve recently been made aware of scam emails and text messages being sent to patients pretending to be from HotDoc, asking people to enter personal or banking details to receive a “refund”.

As a reminder, Tallowwood Health will never ask for your bank details via text message or email, and HotDoc/Medicare will not request sensitive information by email or SMS.

These messages can look very convincing, so we wanted to share a few things to look out for:
• Unexpected refund messages
• Links asking you to log in or enter bank details
• Messages creating urgency or pressure to act quickly

If you receive something suspicious:
• Don’t click any links
• Don’t provide personal or banking information
• Check directly through the official HotDoc app or website
• Delete the message if you’re unsure

We know scams like this can be unsettling, particularly for elderly family members or those less familiar with technology, so please feel free to share this information with loved ones as well.

Online bookings through HotDoc remain a safe and convenient way to book appointments when using official channels. If you’re ever unsure about a message you’ve received, our reception team is always happy to help.

HotDoc, our online booking platform, will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday 28 April 2026 between 10:00pm and 12:00am AEST. During this time, the HotDoc website and app may be unavailable for up to two hours. This update helps ensure the system remains secure and reliable for both our patients and our team.

💉 Flu Vaccinations Now Available! 💉

Stay well and keep those around you healthy this flu season.

Why get vaccinated?
• Cuts your risk of flu by 50–90%
• Helps prevent spreading it to friends, family & vulnerable people
• Protects against severe illness and complications

Undecided about the flu vaccine? Here’s what to consider: If you choose to vaccinate, you may experience mild side effects for 1–2 days. 💉 If you catch the flu, it could mean a week in bed, or longer if complications like lung infections occur, and in some cases, hospitalisation may be necessary. 🤒 We recommend getting the 2026 influenza vaccine before potential exposure. A sore arm is minor compared to the risks of illness. Annual vaccination before the onset of influenza season is recommended for all individuals 6 months of age and older.

Influenza vaccine is funded under the NIP for:
• Children 6 months to under 5 years
• Adults 65 years and over
• People 5–64 years at higher risk, including pregnant women, First Nations people, and those with certain medical conditions

FluMist® (Nasal Flu Vaccine) 👃
• Optional needle-free nasal spray for children 2 to under 18 years
• NIP-funded only for ages 2 to under 5
• Ages 5 to under 18: available via private GP script (fees apply)
• Not available for children under 2 years (injection only)

We continue to offer the injectable vaccine as standard. FluMist is an optional alternative and can be requested, please let your GP or nurse know your preference. Both options provide reliable, strong protection against circulating strains.

Timing: Flu season typically peaks June to September. Vaccination from April to June provides optimal protection (lasting 3–4 months), but it’s never too late to vaccinate. 🫶🌿

We’re excited to welcome Dr Saman Shaker (Dr Sam) to the team at Tallowwood Health 👏

Dr Sam has joined us with trauma training from South Africa 🇿🇦 and has spent the past two years working at Tamworth Base Hospital 🏥. He has a strong interest in emergency medicine and frontline care.

Outside of medicine, Dr Sam is the vocalist and guitarist for his band Nostromo 🎸, a heavy, genre-blending group influenced by Queens of the Stone Age, Soundgarden, and The Beatles. They’ve performed during our Country Music Festival 🎶 and Tamworth Pride Inc’s Fair Day 🌈. He also enjoys playing volleyball and soccer.

Dr Sam will be consulting on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 🗓️.

💉 Flu Vaccinations for Your Workplace 💉

Flu season is coming up, and unfortunately sometimes, it doesn’t take much for illness to move through a workplace. Offering flu vaccinations is a simple way to help keep your team well and minimise disruption over the colder months. It’s also a practical way to support your team's health.

At Tallowwood Health, we provide flexible Workplace Flu Vaccination options that are easy to organise and run smoothly for businesses of all sizes and work hours.

1️⃣ On-site clinic:
One of our experienced Registered Nurses comes to your workplace and administers vaccinations on-site.
• Nurse attendance fee (charged per hour)
• Vaccine fee per employee (charged per vaccine given)

Vaccinations usually take around five minutes per person, keeping disruption to the workday to a minimum.

2️⃣ Vaccination vouchers:
Each staff member receives a voucher to book their flu shot at Tallowwood Health at a time that suits them.
• Charged per voucher issued (fee includes the vaccine)

👉 For businesses with five or fewer staff, the voucher option is generally the more cost-effective choice.

Flu season can sometimes place extra pressure on workplaces, a little planning ahead can help things run more smoothly during flu season.
