You missed a good one!
Yesterday's trip to Dorrigo National Park, Dangar Falls at Dorrigo and Bellingen was a fantastic, long day out!
The one day in two weeks that had rain predicted yesterday was exactly where we were heading. Lucky for us we had our lucky weather charm with us, Norm, and we didn't see a drop! He is always telling everyone how lucky we are to miss the rain - if only he knew.
As we drove through Bellingen we thought that one of our ladies was having a heart attack as she was so besotted with the town. Her mother had told her it was a hippy town with lots of shops. Luckily she had inadvertently left her wallet at home!
And then we arrived at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. After a quick morning tea, we all headed to the elevated Skywalk for absolutely stunning views and the mandatory group photo. Then it was off to explore the lush rainforest that had everyone in awe. There were giant stinging trees, birds nest ferns and lawyer cane palms that use their tiny hooks to climb high into the rainforest canopy in search of sunlight.
The pathways made walking easy and safe. The forest was alive with the sounds of birds and the steep climbs were challenging. We were able to split into groups that suited everyone's walking pace and fitness. Everyone was so fascinated by the rainforest that many ended up walking several kilometres.
We were only a couple of kilometres from Dangar Falls in Dorrigo and had been recommended to visit Dorrigo Wood Fire Bakery, so off we went. The bakery didn't disappoint and neither did Dangar Falls.
Back on to Waterfall Way with one stop on the way down to Bellingen to photograph Newell Falls. Everyone got some free time in Bellingen to wander as they wished, but somehow most ended up in the lolly shop!!! A quick stop at The Butter Factory but most craft shops had already closed. Thank heavens that wallet was still in Taree!
So our next trip is on the 27th September to Caves Beach and Catherine Hill Bay. Now I don't know if you have been watching the news but the NSW government wants to demolish this icon jetty after a structural condition assessment that they commissioned found it was "suffering from irreparable corrosion". This may be your last opportunity to see this iconic 135 year old coal mining jetty. Book now!
