At Read3 was a passionate about intensive, targeted support for our most vulnerable. We're excited to be sharing our passion with with curriculum leaders, wellbeing and pastoral care professionals, and learning support teachers and leaders from ISQ schools.
The focus of the day is Multi-Tiered Systems of Support with an emphasis on the need for differentiated teaching and learning opportunities. We're hoping to provide a little sneak peak of our new 'CHIPS Insight' tool which identifies appropriate tiers of literacy intervention at the click of a button. 😊 Should be fun!

Jamie Olivier‘s new documentary on dyslexia - although not accessible in Oz- is certainly generating attention. ❤️.

In this little snippet about his experience as a person with dyslexia, it’s great to see a couple of really key messages being shared.

👉 the social/emotional pain of kids who are falling through the cracks
👉 the pain in parents who watching it happening!

As he says:

“There a lot of people out there who struggled at school, and whose self-esteem and self worth evaporated at a very young age - under 10 I’d say.”

Oh we hear you Jamie!

And that’s why we do what we do. 😊

We were saddened to hear that the government is continuing with the six year price freeze on NDIS fees for Speech Pathology services... Then to hear that travel fees are being halved just worsens the blow. 😢 Decisions such as these mean the capacity to effectively service our most most vulnerable kids, often in their own homes, may be compromised.

To all the Speechies out there, we hope this announcement doesn't make you feel less valued by the children, families, teachers and communities you support. We are fully aware of the difference you make to the lives of millions of people every year and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 🥰

To all our followers, we encourage everyone to sign and share this petition and help send a strong message to the Federal Government that decisions that affect our Speechies and compromise our loved ones development are not ok.

The latest podcast from Jocelyn Seamer Education is a great listen. Within the framework of cognitive load theory Jocelyn challenges the notion that a blanket whole class phonics lesson is indeed the best approach. For those of us working with struggling readers, who may be years behind their peers, this message certainly rings true, but it is equally true for children who are ahead of the pack. Exposure and active engagement are not the same thing! I'll leave it to Jocelyn to share her ideas for a more equitable approach.

With the start of the school year just around the corner, it's time to start thinking about early literacy screening! Updates to our free CHIP Screener have just been released - see https://read3.com.au/blogs/read3/chips-updates-2025-01 for details.

CHIPS stands for Check How I Process Screener. This FREE evidence-informed screener is designed to assist with early detection of literacy challenges, including risk for developmental dyslexia.

It examines for key processing skills:
🌟 phonological awareness
🌟 letter-sound knowledge
🌟 phonological working memory
🌟 rapid automatised naming

Phonics skills are also reviewed to gauge what impact processing skills are having on reading and spelling development.

If you've ordered CHIPS in the past you should have received a personal email that includes your new download link.

If not, you can learn more about CHIPS, and order a copy here: https://read3.com.au/pages/free-literacy-screener-chips.

Happy screening everyone!

An important reminder for those of us living with or teaching a child with dyslexia. 🥰

Having dyslexia can be exhausting!
So much of our day-to-day lives relies on our ability to read.
Being a dyslexic student is already all-consuming.
The fatigue caused by reading, writing, spelling and studying is such a mammoth effort for us that we often feel tired.
Trying to keep up with our peers in class, keeping on top of our studies and constantly feeling like we’re falling short means we are often burnt-out and stressed by the end of the day.
We constantly feel swamped.
So please don’t ever mistake our fatigue and tiredness for being bored, lazy or defiant, in fact the opposite is usually true, we are working harder, longer and exerting more focus and energy than you can possibly imagine!
