Many of you might already know I been working on a new creative project over the past couple of years. During lockdown I started a little website called Campfire Co which is a celebration of the Country we are grateful to call home. As part of this project I have been designing and hand screen printing talisman bandanas and have just released my first design for my gardening friends.

I've always seen so many shared lessons and metaphors with life and gardening. There are so many life lessons to be experienced with dirt under your fingernails, mulch stuck in your boots and the sun on your back. And the best part is these moments are best shared with friends, family, children and your community.

This design features the Australian Native Blue Banded Bee, pollinator flowers, seed saving, the moon phases and of course the sun and is a reminder that we are all growing together.

Gardening to me is about so much more than pretty plants and outdoor recreation and entertaining spaces. For me designing a garden is about creating opportunities for making memories, passing down traditions, remembering holidays/travel destinations and cultivating nostalgia. Designing and building our garden has been a labour of love, a creative outlet, and an opportunity for exercise for me. Over the past 4 years I have transformed our 900+ square metre block from a w**d infested, poor soil, blank slate into what is now taking shape into a productive and calming space where the outside world simply disappears and the buzzing of bees, and bird calls mask any sounds from our 'real world' consciousness. This week we harvested our first decent white flesh peach crop and as the kids reached high into the branches to pick the velvety textured, fragrant fruit, I couldn't help but hope that this will be a memory they will hold onto into their adult lives. And how lucky are we to have there to capture these classic moments for the family photo albums.

I’m a big ‘seed saver’. It’s great for your gardening budget, promotes strength in your crops and you get some wild surprises. This is the fourth year replanting these same sweet pea seeds and I love the tones I am getting this year as the plants cross pollinate.

Picking apricots and parsley tonight as the storm rolls in. The kids are having parsley and pea pesto for dinner with stewed apricots for dessert (and breakfast). Apricots are classic “Tassie” and so happy to finally be getting our own Apricot yield up here in NSW.
