The RSV vaccine is now free for eligible older Australians under the National Immunisation Program.

Eligibility criteria free vaccination is:
First Nations Australians aged 60 and over
Non‑Indigenous Australians aged 75 and over

The vaccine is also clinically recommended for people aged 60–74 with certain medical conditions, including bronchiectasis, COPD, cystic fibrosis and severe asthma. At this stage, these groups can access the vaccine via private prescription only.

RSV can be serious for older people, especially those living with lung disease.

Tuesday, May 5th marked World Asthma Day

Asthma Management has undergone some big changes and we need to spread the word that the Blue Puffer Alone is No Longer Enough!

🫁 Adults and adolescents (12+), relying on the blue puffer means the underlying inflammation is not being treated, increasing the risk of serious, preventable asthma attacks.

🫁 The new standard is to use a reliever that contains a low-dose inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) combined with a rapid-acting reliever (such as budesonide-formoterol), often referred to as AIR (Anti-inflammatory Reliever) or MART therapy.

🫁 If you or a loved one use a blue puffer more than twice a week or more than 3 puffers a year please see your GP to update your asthma action plan to an anti-inflammatory approach.
