An absolutely brilliant post by “Dan with the Van” on our communities local social page!

Did you know 40% of ill health and early death in Aussie men is preventable !

This years International Men’s Health Weeks focus is on getting more men to their GP!

Surprisingly, many men don’t even have a GP 😱. For those that don’t, make this month your time to find one.

For those that do have a regular GP, book an annual review or have that lurking health concern looked at!

Early action can make all the difference.

There are now further shortage announcements regarding medications used for the treatment of ADHD.

We encourage those who will be impacted to contact their prescriber to discuss a plan and minimise the impact of the these shortages.

⚠️Medicine shortage update – Further shortage of methylphenidate hydrochloride products⚠️

In addition to the shortage of Concerta and Methylphenidate-Teva XR products, Ritalin and Artige immediate-release tablets are now also in shortage.

A shortage of Ritalin LA capsules is anticipated, starting from 21 April 2025 for the 30 mg strength, and from May, June and July 2025 for the other strengths.

These medicines are used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

We acknowledge the concerns and difficulties caused by such shortages, especially due to the specific requirements for prescribing and dispensing methylphenidate hydrochloride. We hope this notification will give patients and prescribers the opportunity to plan ahead.

We urge patients who are affected by these shortages to speak with their pharmacist about their supply of medicine. We also suggest patients consult with their prescribers early about their treatment plan, as they may need a new prescription.

☀️🏖️ Families love being outdoors and being active. However, being outdoors means you and your family can be exposed to UV radiation. 🔥

Incredibly, research shows that even one blistering burn in childhood or adolescence doubles your chance of developing melanoma, and women who report at least five blistering sunburns before the age of 21 show an 80% chance of developing melanoma and a 68% chance of basal cell carcinoma in later life.

🧴😎👒 To protect your family's health and create habits that your children can carry with them through life, make sure your family knows when the UV hits 3 and the best ways to cover up from UV.

Ask our pharmacist about sunscreen options everyone will enjoy, even the little ones.

NSW Health is warning the community about the dangers of unexpected drugs in co***ne, which have resulted in three recent overdoses including one death.

Two people have been hospitalised and one person has died in NSW as a result of overdose in the past week. The cases experienced severe sedative effects and altered behaviour.

The white powder associated with the cases was presumed to be co***ne by those using it, but was found to contain bromazolam, a type of benzodiazepine with strong, sometimes unexpected effects and 2C-B, a hallucinogen.

NSW Poisons Information Centre Acting Medical Director Professor Andrew Dawson said the risk of severe overdose or death is increased when people use a drug that they are not expecting.

“One of the dangers of illicit drug supply is the strength and contents of the substance you are getting is unknown and can be inconsistent,” Professor Dawson said.

“Anyone who experiences unexpected sedative effects such as difficulty speaking or walking, drowsiness, loss of consciousness, slowed breathing/snoring and skin turning blue/grey should seek medical care immediately.

“‘If you are feeling unwell, stay with friends or around other people. Don’t go home alone to sleep it off.

“Stimulants such as co***ne have also been found containing opioids. It's strongly recommended that anyone who uses illicit drugs carry naloxone.

“Although naloxone does not reverse the effects of benzodiazepines or hallucinogens, if you are concerned that someone is having an overdose, naloxone is safe to use in these circumstances.”

Take home naloxone is a life-saving treatment which can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose.

Anyone who uses naloxone should call Triple Zero (000) for an Ambulance immediately after use for follow up care. You won't get into trouble for seeking medical care. If you feel unwell, or if your friend feels unwell, do something about it.

Take home naloxone is available as an easy-to-use nasal spray or injection from some pharmacies and other health services. For more information on the take-home naloxone program visit: https://yourroom.health.nsw.gov.au/getting-help/Pages/Naloxone.aspx

Naloxone is available from the NUAA via mail in a discreet package. Order online here: https://shop.nuaa.org.au/ or call (02) 9171 6650.

Anyone who has concerns about adverse effects from drugs should contact the NSW Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26, at any time 24/7.

For support and information on drug and alcohol problems, contact the Alcohol and Drug Information Service on 1800 250 015. This is a 24/7 service offering confidential and anonymous telephone counselling and information.

It's that time of year again! We are seeing more and more patients with ticks and questions about safe tick removal.

Here are some tips and a great video.

If you’re bitten by a tick…Freeze it, don’t squeeze it! ❄️
Do you know how to safely remove a tick?
Ticks should not be removed with force or touched as disturbing the tick may cause more tick saliva to be injected into your skin. Removing a tick correctly can help prevent allergic conditions linked with tick bites including tick anaphylaxis and mammalian meat allergy.
Ether containing sprays which you can get from the pharmacy can freeze and kill the tick. Watch the video on how to remove a tick here 👉 https://bit.ly/3Z6wiwz
