Bait and switch.....what is it?
Essentially, it’s when your care provider promises you the world, says they support your decisions. It feels amazing and you think you’ve found the right provider. When out of no where they start questioning your decisions by placing unnecessary fear or doubt in your ability to birth or choose the path you desire. When it comes to crunch time, they’re doing ‘standard procedures’ you’d already discussed and did not agree to, they’re not asking for your permission to perform tasks or interventions and their former informed consent ways have been thrown out the window and you’re left feeling betrayed, shocked, confused, abandoned and unheard.

If you sense that this is happening to you under your care provider, no matter the time frame, you and your partner can fire them and request they leave then and there and they cannot stop you. It’s tricky when you’re vulnerable, but if you and your hubby or partner are informed, empowered and equiped, you can say NO!

Alternative pain relief in labour. Methods of pain relief used instead of drugs or medical treatments of the surges in labour.

A lot of women find water a calming method; whether it’s the beating of the shower water on their backs or the weightless feeling while immersed in water of a birth pool or bath tub. Birth combs are another medicine free tool that allows women to squeeze on pressure points in the hands to counteract the sensation of a contraction. Tens machines are also a great way to aid in working through each contraction using counter measures with minor electrical pulses in the lower back for the brain to focus on while surges intensify.

If you have ever been left feeling like your just a number in a line during your pregnancy, birth or postpartum, I am so sorry, so very sorry. That is NOT what women centred care is supposed to look or feel like. You should never be subjected to that.......but sadly, for most women, that’s how the system treats us. But, you don’t have to be backed into a corner by a system. You have the ability to be empowered and confident, and that can look any way, as long as YOU chose the path; no one else.

You are not a number; you are a human being. You deserve woman centred care. You deserve what you want. You deserve to be heard and listened to. You are worthy of love and care.

I’d love to help you discover just how much power you have for your pregnancy journey and beyond.

Where do I start? I guess with my own experiences, I was coerced, manipulated, belittled, gaslight, and discouraged, CONSTANTLY. I went through each pregnancy either agreeing to things I didn’t understand and was naive about, or I was always up for a fight with the care providers, even those that said they ‘supported’ me. Long story short, I was never truly in control or took on the responsibility for birthing my babies the way I wanted or needed. It is my goal in my work with women, to empower them with the knowledge that they are the ones leading the way, they get to choose their path and I will champion their decisions with physiological birth knowledge and understanding, offering any info that they wish to know and use to define their own unique, journey.

So what’s my ‘why’? I have a heart for Mums. I want them to feel empowered and confident throughout their pregnancy and birthing journey.
