🧬 Did You Know?

You carry the DNA of ancient viruses in your genome, literally!

Over millions of years, some viruses didn’t just infect us; they became part of us. These viral remnants, known as endogenous retroviruses, now make up about 8% of our DNA. While most are inactive, some play important roles in regulating gene expression, immune function, and even early development.

It’s a powerful reminder of how medicine, genetics, and evolution are deeply intertwined, and how much we still have to learn about the human body.

📍 South Burnett Careers Market | Kingaroy

What an incredible day at the South Burnett Careers Market! 🙌

More than 40 organisations came together at TAFE Queensland’s Kingaroy campus today to connect with students and the wider community about future career opportunities — and Rural Med Ed was proud to be part of it!

Two of our amazing clinical educators, Jill and Lydia, were on the ground sharing what a career in healthcare can look like and showcasing the opportunities available through Rural Medical Education Australia. 🩺👩‍⚕️

With hands-on activities and plenty of chances to connect, this event was a fantastic way to explore job pathways and training options right here in the South Burnett.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello! 👋
