Busting STI myths

Let's lift the lid on this myth. 🚽

Some toilet seats can be grotty, but it's just about impossible to catch a s*xually transmissible infection (STI) from sitting on one.

Bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites (including STIs) prefer living in warm environments like the human body. No matter what you may have heard, they can't survive on loo seats or other hard surfaces.

You're way more likely to catch an STI by having unprotected s*x.

The good news? They're so easy to prevent. Protect yourself and your s*xual partner(s) by using condoms with water-based l**e or dental dams every time you have s*x.

Consider that myth flushed! 😉

My door is a bit bare.
I'm hoping to fill it with stickers and decals that represent the wonderful diversity of my patients.
Any suggestions?

Back to school this week and all the wonderful germs that come with that.
Encourage hand washing to try and minimise the inevitable.

In addition to that uneaten fruit and maths homework, kids can bring home all sorts of things from school. 🦠

An increase in flu cases is expected among school aged kids when school resumes next week. The flu is highly contagious and spread through coughs, sneezes and shared surfaces.

As you prepare your kids to return to school, have a think about how you can protect them (and you) from sickness:
✅ stay up-to-date with immunisations including influenza
✅ teach children to sneeze and cough into their elbows
✅ wash hands regularly (and teach little ones too)
✅ keep kids home when they’re sick
✅ clean surfaces around your home regularly and avoid sharing items.

Caring for a sick child can be a challenging time. Don’t hesitate to ask for help from those around you—whether it’s a pharmacy run or a warm cuppa. 🤍

If you’re worried about how the flu may affect you or your child, talk to your doctor or call 13 HEALTH (available 24 hours a day) to speak to a nurse.

Flu vaccination is free for all Queenslanders aged 6 months or older. It's available through more than 2,500 community immunisation providers, including GPs, community pharmacies and community health clinics.

Live, laugh, l**e indeed
And if s*x is still uncomfortable come have a chat there are other possible causes that we can do something about.
S*x shouldn't be painful.

L**e and condoms are the perfect duo. 🤝

Lubricant (l**e) is a liquid or gel that can help reduce friction and discomfort during s*x by keeping things... moist. 💧

When you're having s*x, using l**e makes condoms feel better, and can also prevent them from breaking or coming off.

There are all different types of l**e out available, but water-based is best. It's easier to clean up and is compatible with all types of condoms (even if they come lubricated in the packet).

So live, laugh, l**e and use a condom every time you have s*x. It’s the most effective way to reduce your chances of getting or passing on a s*xually transmissible infection (STI). 👍

We got a visit yesterday from the director of CAMA psychology (https://www.camapsychology.com) and had a rivetting conversation about the process of weaning and stopping antidepressants. A process we advocate and support patients in.
Thank you so much for sharing your insight and experiences!
