Folate is one of eight water-soluble B vitamins. The daily requirement for adults is 400 micrograms (mcg), 600 mcg during pregnancy and 500 mcg when breastfeeding. Folate is essential for cell repair and division, for synthesis of genetic material (DNA and RNA), and to produce healthy red blood cells. Folate deficiency causes anaemia with large red cells (macrocytic anaemia) leading to fatigue, weakness, difficulty concentrating, and shortness of breath. Up to 30 mg of folate is stored in the body and stores can last for up to three months. To read more, click the link below!
