PMDD doesn't just affect you, it can affect the people around you too. So once you've recognised it, the first step is simply acknowledging it.

Dr Niamh talks through the treatment options in this reel, starting with the basics. Being honest with your partner or family about what that week looks like, and actually accepting their support, matters more than it might sound. You're not a bad person. This is a medical condition and you deserve some grace in that week.

From there, managing caffeine and alcohol and carving out time to genuinely rest in the lead-up to your period can make a real difference.

There are also medical options available. SSRIs can be used cyclically rather than every day, hormonal contraception may help suppress the symptoms, and referrals to endocrinologists or gynaecologists are absolutely on the table. There is a lot of help available, and what suits one person may not suit another.

If you're not sure where to start, your GP is the right first call. Speak to someone who knows this condition and can help you work out what options make sense for you.

PMDD is more than bad PMS, and it deserves to be taken seriously.

Dr. Amy breaks down Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, a condition that's more common than most people realise but often goes unrecognised or dismissed as just "part of being female."

PMDD involves a marked change in mood, sleep, energy or physical symptoms in the week before your period, that lifts once your period arrives. That pattern is the hallmark of the condition, and for many women it can be genuinely debilitating.

If this sounds familiar, you're not overreacting. It has a clinical classification, it can be diagnosed, and there are options to help manage it.

Speak to your GP if these symptoms are affecting your daily life, relationships or wellbeing. You don't have to keep pushing through.

đź’One of the reasons women put off a cervical screening? Feeling unprepared or self-conscious.

But the truth is, things like shaving are the last thing on a health professional’s mind, it simply doesn’t matter.

Sometimes it’s those small worries that stop us in the moment… and lead to delays that don’t need to happen.

The mental load women carry is real even when everything looks fine on the outside.

So many women come to counselling not because something dramatic has happened, but because they’re tired of holding everything together on their own. The constant thinking, planning, caring, worrying, and self-questioning adds up and it can leave you feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or stuck.

That’s where counselling can help not as a last resort, but as a place to pause, reflect, and feel supported.

Melissa McKeegan is an accredited counsellor and qualified health coach who works with women at all stages of life. She offers a calm, compassionate space for open conversations alongside practical strategies to help you make informed decisions and create more balance.

Her approach is thoughtful, tailored, and grounded in values of family, integrity, kindness, and gratitude. Whether you’re navigating a transition, feeling emotionally stretched, or simply craving space to talk things through support is available.

You don’t need to have all the answers.
You just need a space where you’re heard.

💭One of the biggest reasons women put off a mammogram? The fear it’ll hurt.

But for many, it’s actually quick and far less uncomfortable than expected—just a little pressure to get a clear image.

Sometimes it’s the assumption, not the appointment, that holds us back.

• Why internal assessment is sometimes recommended
• How we assess pelvic floor muscle strength and function
• And most importantly: how your comfort and consent come first

Pelvic floor assessments help us understand symptoms like urinary incontinence, pelvic pain and prolapse so we can create the right treatment plan for you.

You’re always in control. You can ask questions. You can pause at any time.

If you’ve been delaying pelvic floor physio because you didn’t know what to expect, this one’s for you.

💭So many women put off getting a mammogram, not because they don’t care, but because life gets busy, fear creeps in, and it’s easy to think “I’m fine, so why go?”. But the reality is, those assumptions can quietly delay something important for our health. Full episode via link in bio.

We’re often taught that a “normal” menstrual cycle is predictable, painless, and perfectly regular.

In reality, women’s cycles are dynamic — influenced by hormones, stress, life stage, sleep, nutrition, and everything else happening in your body and life.

A healthy cycle doesn’t have to look identical every month. Small changes are common, especially during busy or stressful periods, after illness, postpartum, or as hormones naturally shift with age.

At the same time, your body’s signals matter.

Rather than panicking over one unusual cycle — it can be more helpful to look for patterns.
Changes that persist, worsen, or interfere with daily life are worth checking in about.

That doesn’t mean something is “wrong.”
It means your body might be asking for support, clarity, or reassurance.

At Surf Coast Women’s Health Group, we aim to:
• Normalise what’s common
• Take concerns seriously
• Help you understand your own baseline

You don’t need to diagnose yourself or wait until things feel unbearable.
Sometimes the most helpful step is simply a conversation.

Your cycle isn’t something to fear — it’s information.
And we’re here to help you interpret it.
