We are beyond thrilled to officially welcome Psychiatry to SCMBH! 🧠

Please join us in welcoming Consultant Psychiatrist Dr Medhani Hewagama (MBBS, MD, FRANZCP) to our team from March. With over a decade of experience across international and Australian public mental health systems, Dr Hewagama brings exceptional expertise in psychotic disorders, mood disorders, OCD and anxiety disorders, providing evidence-based, holistic care for individuals aged 16+.

This marks a significant expansion of our services and a powerful step forward in delivering truly integrated mental health care to our community.

Meet Rachel ✨

Child + Youth Psychotherapist | Education Liaison

Rach supports children, adolescents and their families with evidence-based, trauma-informed therapy grounded in CBT. She helps young people build emotional regulation skills, practical coping strategies and long-term resilience.

With nearly 20 years in education, Rachel uniquely bridges the gap between mental health and the school system - working collaboratively with families, clinicians and schools to support wellbeing across home, classroom and therapy settings.

Rach also plays a key role in supporting families and educators following educational assessments or diagnoses, providing tailored, developmentally appropriate recommendations that translate insight into clear, practical action.

Tracey is an AHPRA Registered Provisional Psychologist with a diverse professional background - beginning her career in psychology, moving into human resources, and returning to the field driven by a longstanding passion for understanding and supporting people.

She has recently completed her Master of Professional Psychology and joins SCMBH on her path to General Registration.

She works with people across the lifespan, supporting concerns such as anxiety, stress, low mood, sleep difficulties and life transitions, using evidence-based approaches including CBT and ACT.

With a warm, calm and collaborative style, Tracey is passionate about helping clients build insight, resilience and meaningful change that extends well beyond therapy.

Today, we reflect on what it means to be Australian 🇦🇺

At Surf Coast Mind Body Health, we are grateful for this country and proud to live and work on this land.

However, more importantly, we also recognise that for many people, Australia’s history is deeply painful and continues to impact communities today.

We believe that true pride in being Australian includes listening, learning, and acknowledging truth.

To celebrate our nation in a way that brings people together, we support rethinking the date, so that a celebration of Australia can be shared by all.

Togetherness means honouring history, holding space for discomfort, and choosing a future grounded in respect, healing, and unity. 🖤💛❤️
