hi trying to find some information on circumcision in Townsville, my son and his girlfriend have had a beautiful baby boy a week ago and is booked in next week to have him circumcised. They have said they are being charged $600 at the public hospital to have this procedure, can anyone tell me more info?

When my son was done 19years ago it was free of charge.

The idea that UTI's in children lead to kidney problems later in life is one of the main arguments people use to promote circumcision. This 2011 study discredits this.

"CONCLUSIONS

In the absence of serious congenital anomalies, the etiologic fraction of childhood UTIs as a cause of CKD after the first UTI in childhood seems to be small. Imaging procedures after the first UTI can be focused on finding severe urinary tract abnormalities."

There is no need to circumcise your son to prevent Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's).

Another victim of misinformation and lack of informed consent. Ge***al cutting disrupts a baby's eating/breastfeeding. This is common.

This is how babies commonly react after they have been genitally mutilated. Clearly this mother was not informed of this reality. Even though the choice should have belonged to victim, not his parents or doctor, several fundamental principles of health care were violated here, including the principle of INFORMED CONSENT.

"In health care, informed consent refers to the process whereby the patient and the health care practitioner engage in a dialogue about a proposed medical treatment's nature, consequences, harms, benefits, risks, and alternatives.1 Informed consent is a fundamental principle of health care.

The process of informed consent can be considered a patient safety issue from several perspectives. At the extreme, performing a procedure on a patient without his or her consent has been considered by the courts to be a form of battery."
