Q: What is Remedial Massage?
A: Remedial Massage Therapy (RMT) is the assessment and treatment of soft tissue disfunction!
Remedial therapy uses a variety of manual therapy techniques based around Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial release both active and passive and resisted isometric stretching for treating day to day tight muscles, headaches, posture, bursitis and joint pain whether its ankle, knee, hip, back, shoulder, elbow, wrist and last but not least neck!
RMT should be assessing and re-assessing posture, pain, range of motion and quality of motion!
In more serious cases orthopaedic testing can be used to help identify injury’s such as muscle and ligament tears, disc bulges, neural impingement/entrapment and facet joint pain which in many cases will lead to the appropriate referral.
As part of fixing soft tissue disfunction a therapist should equip a client with stretches and exercises which can be vital to long term and lasting results.
