What a week. You won’t believe this! 😍

Four fast births in a week.

Three planned at home, one planned in hospital, each one unfolding in its own way, each one asking for presence, trust, and quick feet.

If you’d told me at the start of the week what was coming, I would have said… impossible.

And yet, here we are.

Weeks like this remind me just how unpredictable birth can be and how important it is to be prepared, supported, and surrounded by the right people when things move quickly.

Mel recently shared a podcast on what to do when labour is fast, it’s well worth a listen, especially if this is something you’re curious about or wanting to feel more ready for.

For now… a moment to pause, reflect, and feel grateful for the women, the babies, and the trust placed in me this week.

As always Rach by my side .than.a.midwife

Something is shifting at Mumma G.

For years this work has grown quietly, one mother, one baby, one family at a time. And lately we’ve been feeling the gentle pull of what comes next.

Growth can feel a little uncertain.
A little brave.
A little like standing on the edge of something new.

But when you take a breath, lean into it, and allow the space for change… there’s also a deep sense of freedom in it.

We’re trusting that feeling.

And because this community has always been part of the story, we wanted you to feel it with us first.

Stay close.

There’s something beautiful unfolding.

International Women’s Day is not only about recognising achievement. It is also about acknowledging the invisible work women carry every day.

Pregnancy, birth, feeding, recovery, and parenting require physical endurance, emotional capacity, and decision-making strength that often go unseen.

Women deserve maternity care that respects that. They deserve to be listened to without having to justify their instincts. They deserve continuity, collaboration, and informed choice.

I would love to shift the focus outward.

If you could give a shout out to a mum right now, what would you say to her?

Tag her. Acknowledge her. Let her know she is seen.

Yesterday I spent the day celebrating with these wonderful women (and more) at the IWD lunch and what a lovely day it was. 🩷

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month 🤍

In pregnancy care, the presence of endometriosis is rarely about dramatic intervention. It is about applying context early and consistently.

What I am often assessing is not simply “risk,” but pattern.

- How has your body historically responded to inflammation
- Have previous surgeries altered pelvic anatomy in ways that may influence pain presentation or labour progress?
- Is there bowel or bladder involvement that may change symptom interpretation later in pregnancy?
- Has fertility treatment influenced early hormonal patterns?
These considerations don’t automatically change outcomes.

They change how closely we observe, when we escalate, and how we collaborate.

Continuity of care allows that clinical reasoning to remain consistent across the pregnancy. It reduces fragmentation and ensures decisions are not made in isolation from your history.

Women with endometriosis do not need alarm. They need clinicians who understand nuance.

If you are planning pregnancy or newly pregnant with a history of endometriosis, you’re welcome to reach out to discuss whether continuity care is the right fit.

There is no perfect newborn schedule, and there is no version of this early season that is supposed to look a certain way.

There is only you, and your baby, learning each other one feed at a time.

If you’re in the thick of it, save this. Come back to it at 3am when you need a gentle reminder that you’re doing better than you think.

And if you need more than words, my door is always open.

These younger years shaped the midwife I am today.

A *couple of decades later, I still stand with women the same way, steady, skilled, and fiercely in their corner.

My Midwifery Journey 🤎

There’s a verse that’s guided my life, especially through change:
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven.

I didn’t begin with midwifery in mind. I needed a place to live, a way to earn, and a path forward, so I became a nurse in 1984. Not long after, a rare opportunity led me into midwifery… and something clicked. Working in birth suite at RBWH, I felt alive. Like I had found where I was meant to be.

Then came a new season, five children of my own to raise. In full faith, I let go of my registrations as a nurse and midwife, trusting that motherhood was my calling for that time.

Years later, a midwifery shortage in our rural town opened a door. The Director of Nursing encouraged me to return and I did. What followed was something special: a small but mighty team of midwives bringing planned birthing back to our community after a decade-long closure. I thought nothing could top those days.

But here we are. Another season. One I could never have imagined.

The fourth trimester is a sacred blur.

It’s where identity, healing, love, and exhaustion all live in the same room.

If you’re in the thick of it, here’s a deep breath, from me to you.

You’re not doing it wrong. You’re doing something really big.
