Slow down where you can.

Choose shade over sun.

Hydrate often, eat gently, and rest with your feet up if that’s an option.

Babies often feed more frequently in hot weather.

That’s normal. Your body is doing enough already.

There’s a part of birth we don’t talk about enough.

After the baby is born, there’s still more to come, the birth of the placenta.

This is called the third stage of labour, and it’s powerful in its own right.

There are different ways this stage can be managed, but physiological third stage means we allow the body to guide the process. No injections. No pulling on the cord. Just time, calm, and close observation.

Let this be your gentle reminder:
The placenta is born too and how that happens matters. ✨

Mastitis can creep up quickly. One feed feels off, and within hours, you’re hot, sore, and possibly feverish.

Mastitis can also happen for a number of reasons, a missed feed, a blocked duct, ni**le damage, or poor latch and it needs attention.

What can you do at home?

🌿 Keep feeding or expressing from the affected breast (yes, really, it helps clear the blockage)

🌿 Rest as much as you can

🌿 Apply warm compresses before a feed and cold packs after

🌿 Gentle massage towards the ni**le while feeding or in a warm shower
And please hear this:

If you feel unwell, or symptoms worsen, don’t wait to get help. Mastitis can escalate quickly and may require antibiotics.

Support is there, from your midwife, GP, or IBCLC. You’re not meant to push through alone.

Let’s talk about what’s worth hiring as you get ready for birth and postpartum.

So often I see families feel the pressure to buy everything, but the truth is, you don’t need a nursery full of gadgets.

You need comfort. You need support.

You need tools that work for you, even if it’s just for a little while.

And that’s where hiring comes in.

It’s practical. It’s more affordable. And it gives you access to things that can truly make a difference, without the big outlay or the “what do I do with this now?” feeling later.

Here’s what I’ve seen make a real impact, time and time again! Available at .au

If I could be in the room with every birthing woman, I’d say these words softly, again and again.

Because birth isn’t about getting it ‘right’ it’s about feeling held, heard, and trusted.

Save this for when you need reminding.

And if you’re supporting someone in labour, maybe these words will help you too. 🤍

Returning to work while breastfeeding? It’s not all or nothing.

Many mums worry that heading back to work means their breastfeeding journey has to end, but the truth is, it can look a lot of different ways.

You might choose to:

🤎 Express and store milk during work hours
🤎 Breastfeed when you’re together and offer other feeds when apart

There’s no one-size-fits-all.

It’s okay if your feeding rhythm changes.

It’s okay to feel sad, relieved, empowered or all of the above.

It’s okay to ask for support, have a plan, or pivot as you go.
If you’re navigating this shift, you’re not alone.

Let’s talk about what’s realistic, what your rights are, and what’s going to work for your family.

Speak to your workplace about a private space to pump (no the toilet is not the option!).

Share what has worked for you below and let’s help another mumma on her return to work journey.

2016… what a year that was.

We were preparing for the return of birthing services to Ingham, full of hope, cake (birth-themed, of course), and big conversations.

There were days spent under blue skies on the farm…
A few hangs at the Townsville Hospital…

And one very special wait, for our very first grand baby to arrive.

It’s hard to believe that was ten years ago.

So much has changed. And yet, the heart of it all… birth, family, community, that’s still the same.

What a beautiful thing to look back on.

And what a reminder of just how much can unfold in a decade.

This deserves its own moment.

Across all births supported by Mumma G Midwifery in 2025, not one woman experienced a second, third, or fourth degree tear.

19 women had a small graze or first degree tear and not a single repair was needed.

Let that sink in.

That’s the result of slow, supported birth.

It’s trust in the physiology.

It’s continuity of care with a midwife who knows your story, your body, your baby.

Yes, sometimes birth brings stretching, sometimes grazing, but when women are truly supported, when they’re not rushed or pushed beyond what feels safe, their bodies do incredible things.

We celebrate the strength of each woman who birthed with us and the gentle care that helped protect her body in the process.

The difference between labour driven by synthetic hormones…
and labour supported by your body’s own rhythm and hormones?

It can feel like dragging a heavy tub uphill…
versus being carried forward by something built to glide.

Both get you there.
But how the journey feels, that’s what stays with you.

Just a visual. Just a bit of perspective.
But it speaks to something deeper.
