When you are preparing for a natural birth, you need to know how your body works so you can relax into it. When your baby comes you want to trust your body knows what to do. I believe in the HypnoBirthing® philosophy as its very much synonymous with Yoga philosophy: same breath; relaxation techniques, same physiological effects. Through my commitment to reading and research I share this with you throughout the course. A great deal of hypnobirthing is about relaxation techniques, breathing and working intuitively with your body. The breathing techniques taught by hypnobirthing during labour is essentially the ujjai breathing technique in yoga. The visualisations are what we call yoga nidras – this is where you re instructed to relax each body part. For example, 'right foot, left foot, both feet are relaxed'. My classes are centered on this wondrous thing we all too often underestimate - the breath. Did you know during labour two main muscles work in perfect harmony together to open the cervix? Through correct breathing techniques you can ultimately shorten your labour. Giving birth really can be not only a spiritual journey, but a painless one too. Overall the class can be summed up as very practical, a session filled with beneficial asanas (postures) and breathing exercises.
