International Women’s Day 2026 – Balancing the Scales ⚖️

Taking moments to recognise the many women across our communities who are constantly balancing:

Working life.
Motherhood.
Partnership.
Kinship.
Friendships.
Community.
Purpose.
And the quiet emotional labour that often sits behind it all.

Some days the scales feel beautifully aligned… others - completely out of balance.

In su***de prevention, we often speak about the necessity of connection, belonging and strong support networks. Because none of us are meant to carry life’s challenges alone.

Stronger communities happen when people look out for one another — when we create spaces where others feel seen, valued and supported.

May our women continue to be strong women.

May our communities continue to raise strong
Women.

Women who keep showing up for eachother through the messy, heavy and uncertain — not just when things are polished and perfect.

The real strength of any community lies in its uniquely weaved village.

Villages evolve. Support networks shift.
Communities grow stronger through connection and care.

Within these circles - are women who lift each other up when it matters most.

Women who celebrate each other’s wins without comparison.
Women who hold space for the difficult days.
Women who remind each other who they are, when another momentarily loses sight.

Across our region, women play a vital role in strengthening families, workplaces and communities — helping to build the protective factors that support wellbeing and reduce su***de risk.

To the men and others walking alongside them - thank you for seeing, respecting & celebrating the strength of the women around you.

This International Women’s Day, our hope is simple…

When you cheer for another woman —
may it be truthful.
may it be genuine.
may it be loud.

Because strong communities grow when people lift each other up.

When one woman rises, she lifts her whole village with her.

Happy International Women’s Day 💛

Words matter—especially right now.

With increasing conversations and media reporting globally about high profile cases and su***de, it’s critical we continue to use and encourage safe, respectful and evidence-based language.

In Australia, the term “committed su***de” was removed from legal and government frameworks and practice in the 1990’s since the decriminalisation of su***de in the late 20th century - reflecting that su***de is a health and wellbeing issue, not a crime.

Best practice (via Mindframe) encourages:
• “Died by su***de” instead of “committed su***de”
• “Su***de attempt” instead of “failed/successful”
• Person-first, non-stigmatising language that avoids harm

This isn’t just semantics—it reduces stigma, supports help-seeking, and can save lives.

Whether you’re in community, media, or the sector, we all have a proactive role to play.

Today we tuned in from Townsville to Su***de Prevention Australia's webinar launching the first year report of the National Su***de Prevention Strategy.

This important update looks at what’s been learned so far and how we can keep strengthening su***de prevention efforts right across the country.

For our Community-Led Safe Space, these conversations matter. National direction is vital - but real change happens in communities, through connection, compassion and people supporting people. The emphasis on the value of lived experience informing growth across all spaces was encouraging. To learn more about the strategy and listen to prior webinars: https://www.su***depreventionaust.org/learnlinc/

We’ll continue listening, learning and advocating for approaches that are community-driven, lived-experience informed and grounded in hope. 💛

When someone says they’re not OK, it can feel confronting - and that’s normal.

Your role isn’t to fix their situation. Just listen, try to stay calm, and show you care. A small moment of support can make a big difference.

💬 Big day of learning, connection and shared purpose 💛

On Sunday, the Townsville Community-Led Safe Space working group came together for a full day of workshopping with Layne, Lead Facilitator from Roses in the Ocean.

We took a deep dive into the 'Working Together' framework — strengthening our shared understanding, building connection, and grounding this work in lived experience, care and collaboration.

We’re incredibly grateful for the space to learn, reflect and grow together & excited about the journey ahead as we work towards a Community-Led Safe Space for our Townsville community 🌱

Watch this space — this is just the beginning.
