It is our privilege to support families as they celebrate a life during one of life’s most difficult times.

At this service, the Wright family celebrated the life of Peter Carey Wright OAM.

Thank you to everyone who gathered to honour a meaningful legacy and share heartfelt tributes.

Kind words like this remind us why we do what we do. We are so grateful and blessed. 🙏

Every farewell deserves dignity, respect and a personal touch.

We’re honoured to walk alongside families during one of life’s most difficult times — creating services that reflect love, faith and the unique story of each life.

At this particular service, Normie Rowe, a famous Australian singer and songwriter was in attendance (and shared his memories) as Peter Carroll, the deceased, was a guitarist of the Playboys band.

Every funeral is different, and sometimes the most meaningful ones are those that reflect the personality, humour and spirit of the person being remembered.

Megan and Allison tell the story of a special moment that reminded them joy can exist alongside grief.

From ‘bean counter’ to undertaker — Malcolm’s unexpected calling

In 2012, Malcolm Pittendrigh was working in finance with The Salvation Army’s Aged Care team when he asked a bold question around the boardroom table:

“What if we offered funerals?”

That spark of an idea — guided by prayer, research, and compassion — became “Salvos Funerals”.

Since launching, Malcolm has helped lead a service that has supported more than 4,000 families with affordable, dignified care during one of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Now operating across NSW, ACT, Melbourne, Perth and Southeast Queensland, Salvos Funerals continues to grow — grounded in compassion.

“The Lord equipped me accordingly and instilled in me a passion for serving families in this way.”

Grief is different for everyone — and that’s okay.

You might feel denial, anger, sadness, or ask “What if?” — and then feel all of it again the next day. These are known as the five stages of grief, and they don’t follow a neat timeline.

What matters is knowing: Your feelings are valid. You’re not alone.

What do you do when someone you love passes away?

In the moments after losing a loved one, it’s completely normal to feel unsure, overwhelmed, and heartbroken. Whether it happens at home, in hospital, aged care or somewhere unexpected — it can feel like the world has stopped.

If you’re not sure what to do next, that’s okay. You don’t have to figure it all out alone.

We’ve put together a simple guide to help you understand what usually happens depending on where your loved one has passed, and what steps might come next.
