‘It takes courage to say yes to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol’ Brene Brown

Hustle culture permeates our every day lives in the most plane ways, we don’t even notice that it is there because it has become so very normalised and the very idea of rest of doing something just to be playful can feel kinda wrong 😑 But without rest and play, exhaustion is inevitable!

Rest and play do not need to be earned, you do not need to wait until you have done ALL the things before resting - before finding joy…if we wait we burnout!

There needs to be a shift towards prioritising rest and play first, we need to give ourselves permission to rest and play and disrupt hustle culture so we can find our way back to our true nature, our true selves!

Let’s drop stop glorifying hustle, let’s stop considering being exhausted as impressive and give ourselves permission to rest and play 💕

Hey Hiri community, Arise yoga offers free community classes every Saturday 2pm for locals on Hiri and the surrounding villages.

Classes are held in the beautiful jungle Shala overlooking the local temple and are beginner friendly.

I have had the honour and the privilege of facilitating these classes for the last month and today will be my last class. The classes will of course continue with other fabulous teachers and I may be back one day to teach you again 😊

It’s my last week in Sri Lanka and there are just a couple more opportunities to practice with me .srilanka and let me tell you this yoga Shala is such a unique experience - I am going to miss being in this sos e with all my heart 🤍

Arise is a dedicated yoga Shala situated in the jungle overlooking a buddist temple and it’s just a few hundred meters away from the beautiful Hiriketiya bay 🏝️

💚Delight in the practice of yin yoga - 5.30pm tonight .srilanka - drop in welcome

Never tried yin yoga?

Yin yoga is a slow + still style of yoga where poses are held for longer periods, typically ranging from 3-5mins. It targets the deep connective tissues of the body, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia.

Our daily hustle-centred lives has us functioning in a high stress, high alert state, our nervous system wired but our bodies are oh so sore and tired.

This makes it tricky to find the deep rest we need to help our minds and bodies restore.

This is where yin comes in ☁️

Here’s how it works:

✨ Love for the Connective Tissues
The gentle, sustained poses of a yin yoga practice target the connective tissues…the unsung heroes of our body’s structural integrity and often neglected in the more Yang style (vinyassa) yoga practices. This stillness and longer holds help to melt away tension + tightness and hydrate these vital tissues, promoting flexibility, better posture and joint health.

😌 Stress Relief
Yin Yoga encourages deep relaxation, calming the nervous system and reducing stress levels. Tension melts away as you bring your awareness to the breath, and allow the body to have time to surrender. The still and longer holds signal the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) to activate and bring about deep rest and relaxation.

🌱 Yin Yoga can feel challenging at first, because we are so accustomed to being stuck in a high stress state, but, overtime your mind and body begin to embrace the stillness and you begin to remember what it feels like to nourish body and mind.
