An interesting read:
Sustainability and H**p
Breaking down the myths.
Yes, Industrial H**p is part of the same family as ma*****na. Let’s call it a distant cousin. However, there are quantum differences. Industrial H**p crops do not produce concentrated levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) nor can be consumed for recreational purposes.
Simply, Industrial H**p will not get you high, just healthier!
Recorded history says, for many centuries, h**p has been developed by civilizations to produce fabrics, paper, rope, bioplastics and a myriad of other productive uses.
Trivia: Glutenberg Bible reportedly was the world’s first book printed on a mechanical printing press. Year 1454. The paper used. H**p!
Post-World War 2, the US government appeared to flip-flop on H**p, depending on vested interests. H**p was either the darling or demonised. US soldiers were dependent on h**p for military clothing and tooling. The duration of the war, US government were encouraging farmers to grow h**p, producing a video titled “H**p for Victory” which was embraced by many. H**p was now the darling.
That all changed as the war ended. H**p was then demonised; US Government denied the video existed and demanded all h**p uniforms be returned and burnt!
The very first jeans produced by Levi Strauss & Co were made from h**p.
In later times, 1996 Canada recognises the value of h**p, not just its fibrous qualities, but the nutritional value of its seed. Created massive employment and generated huge revenues for its citizens.
Fastrack 2020, people globally (US included) are discovering, using and experiencing real benefits from H**p Foods, such as its oil, seeds (hearts) protein and by-products. A wonderful mix of Omegas, Protein & Fibre. The complete food.
Sustainability
Defining Sustainability.
Social, Economic and Environmental
Social
Genuine sustainable practices engulf human rights, the family, that include freedoms, poverty, inequality, social injustice, and other fabrics of a civilised society, regardless of colour. True sustainability such as farming and industrial practices impact us all.
The real social driver must be the consumer, who demand engagement and inclusion, from farmgate to family needs, at their local sustainable supermarket.
Economic
Sustainable practices that involve H**p, is not seamless. Sustainability generally does not equate to rapid economic growth. It is what is. Companies and regulators focus on GDP and other indicators, rather than truly developing a model that checks the boxes on social, economic and a sustainable environment. Elected officials, CEO’s come and go. The driver has to be the consumer.
Environmental
This is where H**p can shine! H**p is considered the perfect rotation crop for growers. An effective broadacre crop, improves soil fertility and naturally adds much needed nitrogen. Easy to grow (providing the correct climatic seed is used) inexpensive as the grower requires very little pesticides, if any. H**p has an innate resistance to most if not all-weather conditions.
H**p has nutritional needs that can counterbalance many major crops such as potatoes, soy and other. It’s deep roots (over 6 foot) draw nutrients and water from deep below the fields surface, seriously aerates soil and adds biomass.
Obtaining answers to many questions on sustainability is up to you and I, the consumer, the human being. It is what is.
