June 29 marks World Scleroderma Day.

Scleroderma is a rare autoimmune disease that causes hardening and tightening of the skin—and, in some cases, internal organs such as the heart, lungs and kidneys.

People with scleroderma may experience:
• Pain and fatigue
• Joint stiffness and reduced mobility
• Shortness of breath
• Difficulty with daily activities due to skin or connective tissue changes

While there’s no cure yet, physiotherapy can make a meaningful difference. At Mobile Disability Physio, we help clients manage symptoms, improve mobility and prevent secondary complications like joint contractures or muscle deconditioning.

Our NDIS-registered physiotherapists work closely with participants and their support teams to develop safe, realistic, and empowering therapy plans that align with each person’s goals.

We’re proud to stand with the global scleroderma community in raising awareness, improving care and supporting better outcomes for all affected.

June 21 is Global MND Awareness Day.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive neurological condition that affects the nerves controlling movement, speech, breathing and swallowing.
Around 140,000 people are diagnosed with MND each year, and in Australia, 58% of those affected are under 65.

People living with MND may experience:
• Muscle weakness
• Difficulty swallowing or speaking
• Breathing challenges
• Fatigue, pain and cognitive changes
• Loss of mobility

At Mobile Disability Physio, our role is to support mobility, comfort, and quality of life. We work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team—alongside speech pathologists, OTs and behavioural specialists—to develop tailored physiotherapy plans that empower our clients to achieve their NDIS goals.

Remember the Ice Bucket Challenge?
This viral campaign helped fund groundbreaking genetic research into MND through the Sporadic ALS Australia Systems Genomics Consortium—bringing us closer to better treatments, and hopefully, a cure.

At Mobile Disability Physio, we love using bicycles in therapy—and not just the traditional kind!

Cycling is a fantastic tool in physiotherapy. It improves cardiovascular fitness, strengthens the lower limbs, and helps with balance and mobility.

Our physiotherapists incorporate bike-based activities in many forms:

Floor pedals: Perfect for clients with limited mobility. These compact pedals can be used while sitting—whether watching TV or chatting with loved ones—providing a simple way to move more.

Frame runners: Similar to bikes but designed for people with reduced lower limb strength. They allow users to move upright and engage socially at eye level with their peers.

Seated cycles (foot or arm pedals): A safe and stable alternative to upright bikes. Some of our clients love riding Melbourne’s scenic bike trails using these with the support of friends or carers.

Biking is not only great for health—it’s also environmentally friendly! Melbourne’s extensive network of bike paths makes it easy and enjoyable to get around on wheels.

Want to incorporate cycling into your therapy plan? Our physios can help you get started safely and confidently.

It’s National MND Week.

May 1 st – 7 th is National MND Week, recognising those living with motor neurone disease and the
professionals who support them.

MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disease where motor neurons (nerve cells that control
movement) degenerate and die.

In Australia, approximately 2,000 to 2,688 people are estimated to be living with Motor Neurone
Disease (MND) at any given time.

The average age of onset is around 59 years of age.

Evidence shows that a customised physiotherapy program can help maintain mobility and ease
discomfort.

At Mobile Disability Physio, we provide home-based physiotherapy and hydrotherapy services that support people living with progressive neurological conditions.

Our physiotherapists tailor treatment plans to help individuals stay mobile and independent for as long as possible.

We currently have immediate capacity and no waiting list.
