How it all started
When I started out to set up as a Sole Trader practice within the NDIS framework, I worked out very quickly there wasn’t a central point of reference, or if there was one it wasn’t easy to find. Being a Chartered Accountant, an IT business consultant and a career sole trader I could see the need for one, and amazed that there didn't seem to be a presence. Now also being an NDIS recipient ( I am diagnosed with Parkinson's) I could see clearly see both sides, Sole Traders needing support, and Participants seeking smaller sized providers that can provide more personalised service and niche supports. Don’t worry about the Parkinsons thing, I GOT it, it ain't got ME, my friends all call me “Shuffles”, and that has sent me on amazing journey ! (more about that in another post)
So what do you do when you can’t find support, you create the support! We started with myself and two other NDIS GURUS (big shout out to Sylvana and Lawrance) , but we will be needing more NDIS experienced moderators soon, as successful support workers and businesses are successful for a reason, and that makes them time poor ! We even have our own Facebook frames to assist those Sole Traders wishing to really standout. So, in support of this page, we have two main groups :
Sole Traders Peer to Peer
This group is designed for providers to discuss issues pertinent to being a sole trader, network and swap ideas. There is a comprehensive educational unit section which discussed everything from setting up an ABN, Police Check, working with vulnerable people to audit requirements should you wish to be certified. For prospective NDIS Participants and Providers to get to know each other
For Providers to discuss issues with Nominees/Carers and other Providers

NDIS Participants engaging Independent Providers
This group allows for sole trader and smaller sized providers to freely advertise their services, and for participants to request. Providers are not allowed to contact participants directly, unless expressly asked to by a participant. The Group has been sorted by state, so local providers are easier to find. Some really great niche activities have been able to promote themselves without the back drop and marketing dollars of the major players financial marketing dollars. Some of these industries include angling, fashion and design and adventure travelling. Next stages:
We have since created The NDIS unofficial Web and News Portal, which auto posts all relevant internet or news posts that are on the topics of disability or NDIS. There are more initiatives on the way, but will let you know about them as they become closer to project finish dates, but trust me, you will ALL love what's coming. Our Objective : We are here to support, promote and assist NDIS Sole Traders, and assist participants in finding them.
