For those living on the Gold Coast or Northern NSW.

Are you a single parent with children, a young person, or an at-risk adult who has limited options to access the help you need through animal-assisted mental health support?

If so, you can apply for animal-assisted mental health funding via:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LXY6VK2

This funding round has been made possible through the generosity and ongoing support of our partner, the James Frizelle Charitable Foundation (JFCF).

We acknowledge and thank JFCF for their commitment, care, and incredible contribution to our communities. Through this valued partnership, ATL is able to provide animal-assisted mental health support to some of the most marginalised and vulnerable people, for which we are very grateful.

Many of you are having school meetings between now and the end of the year

A few tips that might help you make it through the meetings:

🌼 Get the meeting minutes - schools are REQUIRED to keep meeting minutes as proof of consultation. Take your own notes as well. At the beginning of the meeting, if the information isn't offered about who is taking minutes - ask. If they say no one is, request that someone do so.

🌼 Ask questions - if they say something that doesn't seem right or doesn't make sense, ask! "Help me understand..." or "I'd like to clarify that you're explicitly stating..." This also helps in meeting minutes if you raise questions about what they said and how it is captured.

🌼 Ideally, meetings will end with actionable items. If you haven't heard back in the school within 2 weeks, check in on the progress (and ensure they've sent you a copy of the meeting minutes).

🌼 Whenever possible DO NOT ATTEND ON YOUR OWN!!! School meetings are often 3-4+ staff and you. They are all on the same page, and will use school lingo. And you're there on your own, trying to keep up. If you don't have NDIS providers who can attend, get someone to come with you to be a note taker for the meeting. I attend meetings from Cairns to Melbourne with parents on a regular basis - don't hesitate to reach out if you need someone in your corner!!!

🌼 If you feel like you're spinning your wheels in the mud and not making any progress with supports; or like your child's needs exceed the capacity of the school, request that they put in a request for Regional support. If they're in a state school in QLD it's called a single line referral or a student support request. BCE has their own wording for it, but it's the same idea. And, independent schools often buy in to a "Student Resource Scheme" where they can access allied health providers - ask if they are a part of it and if they can get someone in. (If you're outside Queensland, same process, different name. If you ask them if there are Regional supports available that they, as a school, can consult with for additional support, they'll know what you're talking about).

💜 Women’s Equine Assisted Therapy Retreat – November 30th 💜
Theme: Self-Love
📍 Wild at Heart Equine Assisted Therapy, Kin Kin

As the jacarandas burst into bloom, nature invites us to reconnect with the parts of ourselves we often forget while caring for everyone else.

This season of vibrant colour — of warmth, intuition, and renewal — calls us to nurture our higher self. The purple petals remind us of the third eye, the gateway to our intuition and inner knowing.

Join me and the Brumbies, including my beautiful “unicorn” Casper 🌸, for a day of stillness, reflection, and gentle reconnection.
Come home to yourself — surrounded by nature, supported by the herd, and embraced by the energy of self-love.

The team at New Farm Clinic in Queensland recently shared some incredible feedback about Eating Disorders Families Australia’s (EDFA) Hospital Liaison Officer Service pilot program.

Operating since May this year and led by our first-ever Brisbane-based Hospital Liaison Officer, Marianne Edmonds, the service has quickly become a much-valued part of the multidisciplinary eating disorder team at the clinic.

Ramsay Clinic New Farm Eating Disorders Program Director Associate Professor Warren Ward shared that the service has been essential in helping bridge the gap between hospital care and family support. This has been done by connecting with eating disorder carers before admission, providing emotional support and guidance during hospital stays, offering lived experience insights to clinicians, and ensuring carer needs are recognised and addressed.

The pilot is already making a powerful difference for carers, clients, and clinicians, and the hospital team is eager to see it continue.

A huge thanks to Women & Change - Queensland Women's Giving Circle for funding this important service. We’re eager to expand this service to provide much needed support to more families navigating the hospital journey with eating disorders Australia-wide.

This week, a new report has been released showing the impact of hidden changes at the NDIS, which are creating invisible barriers and growing inequity for some of Australia’s most vulnerable people.

The Australian Psychosocial Alliance’s Access Denied: Psychosocial Disability and the NDIS report draws on first-hand insights from consumers, participants, carers and others involved in the system, NDIS statistics and organisational data.

It offers clear recommendations to ensure people with psychosocial disability have access to the support they need, when they need it.

Read more about the findings and recommendations at: https://psychosocialalliance.org.au/campaign

This report was made possible with the support of One Door Mental Health, Neami National, Flourish Australia,
Wellways, Open Minds, Ruah and Stride Mental Health
