Earlier this year, we sent out wellness packages to our remote team members as a small way to say thank you for the huge contribution they make to Connected Cardiology. 💛

This photo captures so much of what we value — a curious little hand (one of our team member’s kids!) diving into the goodies. It’s a reminder that remote work often means blending work life with family life — and we see that as a strength, not a barrier.

We take pride in helping our team members thrive — both at work and at home. That means making the extra effort to keep remote staff feeling supported, included, and connected - as well as offering flexible work hours. Whether it’s through regular check-ins or small moments of appreciation, we know that care for our team translates to better care for our patients.

🫀 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺?

A stress echocardiogram is a type of exercise stress test that helps our cardiologists assess how well your heart is working — especially under pressure.

It begins with a few ultrasound images of your heart while you’re lying down - assessing pump and valve function. Then, you’re monitored with ECG leads while walking on a treadmill that gradually gets steeper and faster every few minutes.

We’ve placed a peaceful image of a long white wooden pier in front of the treadmill — so you can focus on visualising a calming walk by the water as you complete the test.

Once you reach your limit, we get you back to the bed quickly to take some more images. The cardiologist then compares the before and after pictures to see how strongly your heart is pumping — and whether any areas might not be working as well, which can sometimes point to a blockage in the coronary arteries.

📝 Your results are usually discussed with you on the same day.

We perform stress echocardiograms at our Shepparton Regional Hub at 588 Wyndham St, Shepparton.

If you’ve ever been a patient at Connected Cardiology you most likely would have spoken to our lovely medical secretary, Rebecca. We asked Rebecca: What does a typical day look like for you as a medical secretary?

No two days are ever quite the same, but my main focus is keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

I spend a lot of time liaising with both patients and medical staff, answering questions, solving problems, and making sure everyone has what they need.

A big part of my role is preparing pre-clinic documents so that everything is in order ahead of appointments. It’s all about being organised and one step ahead to help create a calm, efficient experience for our patients.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿?

A Holter monitor is a small device that will record your heart rate and rhythm while it is worn.

It is used to detect abnormal heart rhythms which may be occurring when you experience symptoms such as
shortness of breath, palpitations or irregular heart beats, dizziness or fainting.

At Connected Cardiology we will fit you with a Holter monitor when you've been referred by your GP or referring specialist.

A Holter monitor is a small device with 5 wires and 5 electrodes that is attached to your chest to be worn over a 24-hour period.

The application procedure usually takes approximately 15-20 minutes. The monitor is then removed at the clinic the following day via an appointment.

When wearing a Holter monitor it is advised to continue your usual day-to-day activity.

Our next wonderful practice nurse we would love to introduce to you is Catherine Maulion. We recently asked Catherine, “𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆?”

Honestly, it’s the people, both the patients and the team. I love getting to know our patients, hearing their stories, and being part of their journey.

Every patient is unique, and being able to support them through the ups and downs of their cardiac care is incredibly rewarding. It’s also a real privilege to use my experience and skills to help put them at ease, especially when they’re dealing with multiple health concerns.

What makes it even better is that the whole team shares that same commitment to patient care. We’re all working toward the same goal: ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care and feel supported every step of the way.

It’s amazing to be part of a group where everyone is equally dedicated, and that sense of unity really makes a difference for both our patients and us. Plus, we share a lot of laughs along the way, which makes all the hard work that much more rewarding!

At Connected Cardiology, we provide accessible cardiac care to people living in communities throughout the Goulburn Valley region.

Beyond our Shepparton Regional Hub at 588 Wyndham St, Shepparton; we deliver a number of cardiology outreach clinics to nearby towns, including Numurkah.

Dr Jennifer Coller, Consultant Cardiologist, visits NCN Health Numurkah (2 Katamatite Road), on a monthly basis to provide care for local patients - including those who are elderly or frail with difficulty traveling out of town for appointments.

Ms Aimee Longley, Cardiac Sonographer, has also been visiting regularly for the past three years, providing a monthly echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) service.

At Connected Cardiology, we’re proud to support outreach clinics at a growing number of locations throughout the Goulburn Valley region, including: Cobram, Euroa, Rumbalara Medical Clinic as well as our main clinic in Shepparton.

We’re excited to announce that Connected Cardiology recently launched our outreach echocardiography clinic at Euroa Medical Family Practice.

This initiative is a significant step towards our commitment to delivering accessible cardiac care, especially in areas where public transport is limited and many patients are elderly. By providing services locally, we aim to reduce the need for long-distance travel, ensuring patients receive timely and convenient care.

The echo service will work alongside our established outreach cardiology clinic, delivered by cardiologist, Dr Jennifer Coller.

Our vision is to integrate seamlessly with local communities, supporting patients to maintain their health and well-being within their own homes. By removing barriers to care, we strive to make heart health services more inclusive and responsive to the needs of our diverse population.

We’re proud to collaborate with Euroa Medical Family Practice in this endeavour, and we look forward to expanding our outreach services to further support our community.

We operate outreach clinics throughout the valley, including Cobram and Numurkah, as well as our main clinic in Shepparton.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀?

An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart. It’s used to assess the function & structure of the heart in a wide range of cardiac conditions.

Doctors can learn a great deal about the heart from an echocardiogram. Including:

* How well the heart is pumping, by measuring left ventricular ejection fraction

* Heart valve problems like stenosis (narrowed valves) or regurgitation (leaky valves)

* Problems with the right ventricle

* Evidence of shunting (abnormal connections between chambers) or other inherited cardiac conditions.

An echocardiogram takes about half an hour.

The sonographer asks the patient to lie on their left side then attaches several electrodes to monitor their heart rhythm.

A probe is applied to several different positions on the chest with some ultrasound gel.
