Back at it after a pretty hectic few months. Grateful for so many things!

Getting into the swing of normal life again which means setting myself up for success. Focusing on sufficient water intake after all my travel and maintaining my fitness schedule to ensure I move my body even when things get busy.

I absolutely love group fitness 🥰 I love the connections, the shared goals and motivation and the way it can truly help you get up out of bed and into a workout. I can’t tell you how many sessions I have taught only to then see the same people having a coffee afterwards, that socialisation and connection is just so important.
Not everybody can get themselves onto a gym floor and completing their own workout, some people need a PT, others need group classes. There is no one way, maybe it’s even a combination - the important part is to find what works for you and get moving so that you can feel the immediate and cumulative effects of exercise.

Getting back into it after a brief hiatus? Me too. Winter was crazy and my training (and my hydration) was messy, inconsistent and irregular 😬
There are so many reasons why we can lose our usual routines and then find ourselves needing to re-establish all the things we know we need to be the most well version of ourselves. What I have learnt is that you can know all these things, but life can be messy, and busy and it is truly challenging sometimes to get everything into your day.

My tips, firstly go easy on yourself. Depending on the reasons that you lost your mojo it can be genuinely challenging to get back into the swing of things. Allow yourself the space to walk gently without unrealistic expectations on yourself. Don’t judge yourself for where you are at and provide understanding.

Secondly, be very careful about setting up small, easily achievable goals. Forget all the ideal figures for amount of water you should be consuming or how long your workout should be and don’t try to suddenly overhaul your food. Just start with something, maybe it’s an extra glass of water and a walk to the mailbox and back - if that is an improvement on where things are at today then you can slowly set incremental goals from there.

Remember, small hinges swing doors 🥰

We came, we ran, we finished 🏃‍♂️

So proud of the efforts by these ladies, it’s been an inspiration to watch the commitment to training to get to this race today.

Amazing things happen when we support each other and build each other up instead of competing with each other and I think the amazing team at is testament to that.

So, now I need a new goal to work toward😂

Some weeks it all fits in well, other weeks I battle with fitting everything I need to do and then it’s always my workouts that suffer. I have specific goals in mind to achieve with a 10km run only 3 weeks away.

So with that in mind, next week I’ll be putting my workouts into my diary like any other commitment, because I was reminded during a conversation with my colleagues and this week that if you don’t find the time it is because you aren’t making the time. Even us trainers need that help refocusing the mindset sometimes.

Move your body, not because you have to. But because you GET to. Movement is a celebration of all that your body can do, it’s something we can do every single day to protect us for all that the future might throw us.

For you exercise might mean goals for glute growth, the next person might have goals for sport and for some, like my 90+ year old client it is as simple as having the strength to maintain daily activities of living.

Our goals are as different and vast as we are individuals and that is why no two people need to train the same way to achieve their outcomes. Find what movement you enjoy, what gets you through the doors and moving your body for the benefits it offers. 🧠

Those epic bootcamp mornings with - it’s like the lake was put there for exactly this.
There is just something about the incredible combined effort of the boot campers that puts a spring in my step for the rest of the day. Cannot believe this is where we live and this is my work getting to help people move their bodies on such an awesome way.

Have you ever noticed how you can be working out and suddenly think “I am not feeling it today” and suddenly you can’t lift as heavy? Your mindset makes a huge difference when you are working out, but something that has come up in a few conversations recently is the potential power your mindset has on actual results.
There is mixed evidence on the subject, but there is enough out there to convince me that when it comes to working out it’s not just enough to DO it, you have to believe that what you are doing is beneficial and be kind on how you view your body.

In a study in New York on maids and perceived movement based on their line of work there was an observed and measured benefit in knowing that they were actually meeting guidelines for movement in their job. Anecdotally I know how my mindset can affect my immediate outcomes in a workout, so it is something I am a huge advocate for - absorbing all the right influences for a positive mindset and being kind to myself.

Immediate goals post travel whilst dealing with jetlag and getting back into everyday life.

1. Move my body - aiming for 3 strength and 2-3 cardio sessions a week for the first couple of weeks. Duration and type based on listening to what my body needs most

2. Drink at least 2 L of water per day

3. Keep a good bedtime and sleep hygiene (I.e reading before bed not scrolling my phone 😬)

4. Start day with a good balanced breakfast (sure is hard after being fuelled by so many bagels in Canada)

Just keeping it simple for now, I definitely wasn’t having enough water it consistent with my food whilst travelling but if i come home and tackle everything at once then it just won’t be sustainable.

In a couple of weeks I’ll increase some of my goals and make a plan for the year. But for now it’s just easing back into things.
