A Little Bit About the Start of My Journey ✨
At the end of high school and throughout university, I relied heavily on alcohol to numb the depression and anxiety I was experiencing. During first year of university I was diagnosed with depression and started on medication. Despite the warnings against drinking while on antidepressants, I found myself drinking most of the week, eating unhealthily and skipping class to lay in bed all day. Playing varsity volleyball was the one activity and wellness my body was exposed to, I was truly healthy.
Fast forward to the end of my time at Uni, I decided to get off my antidepressants and move to Australia. After about a year and a half in Aus, I sought help again, and my new doctor put me back on medication. But deep down, I knew I didn’t want to depend on them forever.
I had a scary wake-up call when my health took a serious turn for the worse. I quickly realised that healing had to start from within, beginning with my gut health. Within two weeks of focusing on a healthy diet—eliminating the bad and embracing the good—I was able to come off my antidepressants!! That was five years ago, and I haven’t looked back since. My mood stabilised, and I no longer felt the swings of emotions consume me.

Now I get to enjoy a glass of wine every now and again without going into a deep spiral!
