👶🏼 My last class of 2024 was a beautiful day with a lovely couple preparing for their Positive Caesarean Birth. It was a privilege to hear their story and play a small part in their journey to meeting their sweet little one. Birth can be healing and empowering 🤍 The next few slides are a collection of photos that celebrate the beauty of caesarean birth.

I am so pleased to finally have a spot to share these special Q&As 👶🏻 If you’re currently preparing for your own positive birth experience, head over to the website for some inspiring words from families who have attended The Positive Birth Program. They’ve shared what tools they found most helpful, hospital packing recommendations, advice for other parents preparing to meet their baby and more 💖 A huge thank you to these families for sharing their recommendations and advice. My hope is that we can continue to change the conversations we have about labour and birth for the better!

✨ what better way to start than to share a conversation with my beautiful sister Mikala. I was lucky enough to be there for the birth of my nephew in 2022. Her strength, courage and ability to surrender to the power of birth was so inspiring and I could not have been more proud of how hard she worked to bring her son into the world. It was a beautiful day, surrounded by family and supported by the most gentle, kind and caring midwives. Enjoy!

A bit quiet over here for the last month as I was fortunate enough to be able to take some time off for a “holiday” trekking in Nepal. I use the term holiday lightly as this hike was probably one of the most physically challenging things I’ve ever done. I learnt some really valuable lessons up there at 5416m above sea level and I wanted to share my biggest takeaway.. we are far more capable than we realise! It’s funny because just when you think you’ve reached your limit you somehow find a little bit extra from deep within that helps you to keep going. It got me thinking about how walking through the mountains might be a good metaphor for preparing for something as big as labour. I imagine that in the beginning the idea of “conquering” this huge challenge can feel overwhelming. We’ve written our packing lists, we’ve done all the training we could possibly do, we’ve spoken to people who have done it before but there’s still a pretty big list of unknowns. Have I got everything I need? how will I cope?, will I be safe?, am I surrounded by people who will help to look after me and inspire me to keep going if I need it?.. the list goes on. What I learnt is that it’s okay to feel nervous, it’s okay to not know exactly how it’s going to turn out and it’s pretty normal to feel the self doubt creep in. I felt quite vulnerable and there were times where I wanted to quit and go home but with some really supportive people by my side and trust in myself, I was able to keep putting one foot in front of the other. And those little steps really added up because eventually I found myself at the top. The sense of relief and self accomplishment I felt at the top was quite overwhelming. It was a great reminder that challenging experiences can really bring out the best in us and remind us just how resilient, capable and strong we can be, both physically and mentally. I think it’s important to remember that being courageous isn’t about facing these challenges without fear. It’s about allowing ourselves to be vulnerable, acknowledging the feelings of fear and self doubt but continuing to just keep putting one foot in front of the other until you “reach the top”. 📸.photo

Your birth environment is important 🤰🏻in our Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth Program, we talk about the importance and reasoning behind creating a calm birthing environment. For anyone who may have a fear of hospitals or find a hospital environment sterile and overwhelming, there are a bunch of different ways you can incorporate elements that can help to make you feel safe, calm and relaxed ✨ close the door for some quiet and to minimise external distractions, lower the main lights and use your fairy lights or battery operated candles, bring your own pillow or blanket, take your affirmation cards or posters to place on the walls, a speaker for your own music playlist, snacks for energy, eye mask, request for care providers and support people to speak softly, using a birth ball, birth mat or peanut ball, taking a warm shower or utilising the bath (if appropriate and in consultation with your care provider) The choice is yours - make it work for you! ™️
