A night of fun to mark the end of a wonderful year with our Sound Adventures team ❤️ I’ve had a turbulent one, but despite it all they’ve been consistently here - I’m so very lucky. And our little community of families remains stronger and better than ever because of them.

Thank you to Louisa, Diandra, BJ and Dean for your commitment, hard work and kind heart to all the beautiful children and their families we have the pleasure of supporting.

Cheers to 2025 and thank you everyone for trusting in us with your children’s therapy. That isn’t something that we take lightly ❤️❤️

Here’s a little sound game you can play to help strengthen those early literacy foundations with Our Sound Adventure and any favourite text at home ❤️

👂once you identify a target sound, try swapping out sound for another! The real and nonsense words you create sound funny and it helps kids grasp some of those important phonological awareness skills.

For example, if you are currently on the /k/ page, you will have already worked through the other sounds, so you can say something like “I wonder what the word “shark” would sound like if we changed the last sound? Are there any other words we could make if we change it?” Some ideas for this are “sharp” and “shard”

- text by Alice

Three other great texts for this game that I like are rhyming books like:
- oi Frog 🐸
- oi cat 🐱
- Fox’s socks 🧦

💭 Will you play sound swap when reading next time?

Our Sound Adventure and Sound Deck supports Speech, Language, and Literacy development in the most fun and engaging way!

The next few posts will include some ideas for how you can use the book and Sound Deck to support your little one on their own Sound Adventure, targeting different developmental stages.

👂As you turn the page to go through a new sound, you can ask your child to think of any other words that start with that sound. If that’s a bit tricky, you can ask them if they can see something in the room that starts with that sound.
👂As you are reading the book, you can ask them to identify whether the sound is at the start, end, or in the middle of the word. For example, when learning about /s/, Santorini sunset kiss, has the sound in all three places!

🫶 Tip: When you’re modelling the sounds to your little one, try not to add a vowel sound onto the consonant. For example, if the sound you’re focusing on is /p/, don’t pronounce it as /pa/. Your child may learn it with the vowel, and start adding it in everytime they see a /p/.

Happy new year from my family to yours 🫶 we snuck in this family shot during our work shoot with last year and so very glad we did.

We’ve been travelling the last month and I’ve been easing back in to work gradually. We’ve had a health curveball knock us pretty hard. Ready now to tackle what this new year throws our way with a full, grateful heart. Thanks so much for being here ❤️

I aim to show up more consistently to share a variety of content including info on paediatric speech, language and social communication, as well as more about our group programs and a bit about my book along the way!

Would love to hear what you love to see here. What would you like me to share? It will help me so much 💕
