Yesterday marked the beginning of Queensland Mental Health Week. The theme this year is ‘Take Time’ - for mental health ⏰

Research shows there are six simple things we could be doing to improve our mood, build resilience and boost our wellbeing 👍

🟧 Take time to connect — spending time with other people is important to everyone’s mental wellbeing
🟩 Take time to embrace nature — connecting with the outdoors and taking care of the planet is the best recipe for world wellbeing.
🟦 Take time to get healthy— being active and eating well is good for your mind as well as your body
🟨 Take time to keep learning — learning new things can make you more confident as well as being fun
🟥Take time to show kindness — practising small acts of kindness, volunteering time, or simply helping a friend in need can help you feel more satisfied with life
🟫Take time to take notice — paying more attention to the present and the world around you helps relieve stress and enjoy the moment

Having a plan can make a huge difference to your health and wellbeing

A Mental Health Care Plan is a support plan for someone who is going through mental health issues. If a doctor agrees that you need additional support, you and the doctor will make the plan together.

If you have a mental health care plan, the Government will pay some or all of the cost of up to ten sessions with a mental health expert in a year. You can get that through the Medicare rebate.

People experiencing anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and other mental health disorders previous to COVID-19 are at risk of experiencing increased levels of anxiety. As a result, people may require more support and access to mental health services (Black Dog Institute, 2020).

What is the impact...
"The psychological impact of the coronavirus pandemic is becoming so severe that people on mental health plans which are running out risk facing serious conditions with inadequate support." (Tuhoy, 2020)
