Part of our role as a mentor, trainer, coach, support worker or parent…. Is to redirect the negative thoughts our people are experiencing.

Working alongside young people, with disabilities in their job search , we are faced with challenges, rejection and frustrations constantly. Its a tough world!

But we dont just focus on the job search… we work holistically on the whole person from confidence, resilience to a mature attitude.

Our experience has been …If you can support a person to overcome setbacks in life, you’rve done more for them than you will ever really know.

Isnt this what “Good Support” means?

Helping someone cope with life a little better by retraining those defeating thoughts and rebuilding the feelings low confidence self esteem.

This is where ReachoutNQ shines- we care about the whole person and not just the task of finding a job.

Today I was reviewing my client M’s progress since we started working together in November.

M has a dream…. But life has come along😢

M has so many huge challenges going on in her life, raising a teenage child with Autism while she herself nanages with life on the Spectrum as well.

Her property manager recently gave her notice to vacate her unit, so stress doubled then quadrupled when the rental agencies we kept applying too, kept knocking her back due to her income being too low.

So our role here became very complex, there were multiple needs and urgencies to address. And M was under huge amounts of stress.

ReachoutNQ, together with her Community Access Provider, and her Supports Coordinator- collaborated successfully to help M with her daughter’s needs and their housing journey.

Her daughter has been accepted into Long Distance Education, after hardly attending school due to anxiety and bullying, M is so relieved that with support she will now see her daughter finish school in year 12.

So getting back to Ms dream…. Well , she has always wanted to be a day care teacher. But has been told all her life she could never do anything more than be a cleaner.

In steps ReachoutNQ and we begin to work our magic.

Today M is undertaking her Cert 3 in childcare and has a fulltime job in a reputable Childcare centre.

M’s dream has come true, she is now at 40 years of age doing what she dreamed about all her life.

Being the motivator and supporter of turning our participants dreams into reality… is what makes our choice of ‘work’ rewarding.

(The housing situation is still not resolved fully, but the “Team” are all working hard to find a forever home. )

ReachoutNQ has been in business here in Townsville since 2022.

Our Niche’ service is SLES ( School Leavers Employment Services) where our participants are supported into workplace settings either as a volunteer, mentoring or paid work. We also have participants who are assisted to complete their Certificate III qualifications in their chosen field.

Our achievements to date have all 5 participants placed in a workplace of their choice and are supported to find and keep their jobs.

The general timeline from commencing to engaging in workplace activities is generally a 3 month process.

Along with this service Life Skills are naturally blended into the supports to ensure the ultimate successful outcomes.

Our service is unique, as there are not many Independent SLES Providers here in Townsville and I keep my client load to Max of 6 participants in process at any one time to ensure that get the best focused attention to their goals and needs.

With saddness and of course and great pride, I have a participant graduating from my service in November this year. This will mean I have spots opening up to engage with 1-2 new participants.

If you have a participant aged 18- 25 that is self- managed or plan-managed. Who has SLES funding, I welcome all enquiries.

I currently have openings to begin the initial supports on Monday and Wednesday mornings , should you wish to commence with the discovery process under Social and Recreational Activities in the Community.
