⭐️ A fantastic and insightful Day 1 at the HCANZA conference in Brisbane, focussing on “Driving Positive Change”.
💪 The opening workshop by Paul Taylor was packed with lifestyle tools and tips, based on scientific research. Lots of great info on exercise. nutrition, recovery, relationships and so much more.
✅ The workshop by FIRE UP Coaching provided opportunity to reflect on emotional intelligence and how to help others to make sustainable change.
🧘‍♀️ Looking forward to starting Day 2 with a rooftop yoga class!

Do you or someone you know have Type 1 Diabetes?

👀 Check out this new study on the effect of a low carb diet on T1D management

Our clinical trial has been published!!! 😁💯✅

This study commenced in the middle of Covid-19 lockdowns in July 2021 and I am so proud of what our research team and the participants were able to achieve despite all the challenges that were thrown our way!

This single-arm longitudinal intervention study showed that a healthcare professional supported 12-week low-carbohydrate diet (25–75 g/day) improved markers of blood glucose control and quality of life with reduced total daily insulin dosages and no reported episodes of ketoacidosis or severe hypoglycaemia.

We hope this study will attract the attention of other research teams across the world to conduct larger controlled clinical trials investigating this very important topic.

Thank you to Kieron Rooney, Grant Brinkworth, Helen Parker, Amy Rush, Rebecca Johnson, David Lim and Kevin Lee for bringing this study to life and supporting me during the final leg of my PhD.

↔️ Moderate or abstain? Which approach might be most helpful to you?

🍫 Do you struggle to have just one sweet? If you have one sweet, do you then look for more?

➡️ It’s probably best to abstain from sweets and any foods that might hold you back from achieving your health goals

🍬 Do you find it possible to just have a small sweet without then reaching for more and more?

⬅️ You’re probably able to moderate your sweet intake without losing control or overdoing it

🍷 Take the quiz again - this time replace ‘sweets’ with ‘alcohol’. Do you get the same or different answers about yourself?

The festive season is kicking off!

🌟 What will you do to set yourself up to make the best health choices when celebrating?

💛 Be kind to yourself and have fun - It’s the holiday season after all and we all deserve to relax and have a good time with our family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and more!

🥩 Eat something satiating and healthy before going to a party or gathering. Proteins and fats from animal sources are good choices.

🧆 If taking a plate of food to share, skip the junk food and take something that’s in line with your way of eating.

🥂 Choose drinks that are low sugar and low alcohol (or no sugar and no alcohol)

🔀 If you go off track, that’s okay - Regain control over your blood sugar levels, gut health, energy and clarity the next day. Rehydrate with water and salt, prioritise proteins and fats (instead of carbs) and consider fasting.

🍽️ A study completed this year has identified food sources for essential nutrients

📊 Iron, zinc, folate, vitamin A, calcium and vitamin B12

✅ This study found the top food sources of these nutrients are organs, small fish, dark green leafy vegetables, bivalves (clams, mussels, oysters), crustaceans, goat, beef, eggs, milk, canned fish with bones, mutton and lamb

😳 Take a look at how this compares to the “Australian Guide for Healthy Eating” (current, dated 2013)

💡 Sustainable farming ➡️
✅ Better for the animals
✅ Better for human health and community
✅ Better for the environment
✅ Better for the business and industry

💡 You are what you eat ate ➡️
🥩 Whether it’s what livestock animals are fed when raised (e.g. grass and pasture, or grain/corn/soy - see ‘plants’ below)
🥗 Whether it’s what cropped plants take in through the soil and water (e.g. pest control chemicals, cleaning agents)

Our Cow

We get asked a lot what makes Our Cow meat any different from the meat available at your local butcher, or even the ‘organic’ meat available at the supermarket. It’s a good question! Is it worth parting with your hard earned cash to try a meat delivery service, when you have other, more traditional options available to you?

My answer is simple - Our Cow meat is better; it’s better for you & your health, it’s better for the animal, it’s better for Aussie farmers, and it’s better for the environment.

But what does that mean?

Remember that saying “you are what you eat”? Well, it’s true and it guides us in who we choose to work with and how we find the best quality produce available in Australia today.

Many cattle, lambs and other animals are fed a grain-only diet as it’s cheaper and requires less land for the animal to graze. But, eating only grain (especially corn and soy) is unnatural for animals. It makes them more susceptible to bacteria and disease - which leads to long-term antibiotic use - all causing ill health and stress to the animal, and affecting the quality, taste & nutritional value of the meat you eat. If it’s been in the animal’s body, it’s going into your body when you eat their meat. It’s as simple as that.

An animal that eats grass only, is produced naturally with lots of access to clean spring water and roaming freely, is healthier, leaner and happier. Grass-fed animals produce antioxidants that help reduce and slow damage to our cells, and their meat is higher in omega 3 fatty acids, which gives us energy and are vital for good health.

How an animal is raised, what they eat and what their environment is like, makes a huge difference to the life of that animal, the quality of the meat they produce, and the impact it has on you when you eat it.

I couldn’t tell you how many hours and km’s Bianca & I have spent researching, finding and meeting with Aussie farmers all over the country, analysing their farming environment & practices, and hand-selecting the farmers we now work with today. We put the time and effort in because we can personally guarantee the quality of their produce and how their animals have been raised & treated.

And these things make a difference - to you, your family, and to our environment. It also means we can support our Aussie farmers who are putting in the hard yards to raise organic, grass-fed animals the right way - and it’s bloody tough work, let me tell you!

That’s why I can put hand on heart and proudly say Our Cow meat is better. But don’t just take my word for it - give it a try and tell us what you think (we even offer a money back guarantee if you don’t like it!)
