Welcome to our interim EO, Greg Ferrington

Greg is committed to fostering positive change. With over 40 years experience in community services, particularly in the areas of disability and community development, Greg brings a wealth of experience and a passion for improving the lives of those he works with.

With a background in community services and local government, Greg is a proven leader and advocate. He draws on over 40 years’ lived experience of a chronic health condition to inform his work.

Greg lives in the inner west with his partner of 20 plus years and is a passionate Western Bulldogs supporter. In his spare time, Greg volunteers with various nonprofit organizations, dedicating his time and expertise to uplift marginalised communities and create a more inclusive society. He is currently on several boards of governance so has a strong working knowledge of governance issues facing small organisations.

Farewell to Denise Boyd.

After six years of dedicated leadership as Executive Officer of STAR Victoria, we
bid a heartfelt farewell to Denise Boyd. Denise’s vision and commitment have left an enduring mark on our organisation. Under her guidance, the ABCs of Inclusive Education workshops reached new heights, and the launch of our new website has strengthened how we connect with our community.

We will miss Denise’s steady leadership, passion for inclusion, and the warmth she brought to every interaction. Her legacy will continue to inspire us as we move forward. We wish her every success and happiness in the next chapter of her journey.

On Tuesday, the NDIS severely limited funding to art and music therapy.
Both of these therapies are particularly important to children with intellectual disabilities. They use non-verbal expression, develop social skills and emotional regulation. They support cognitive development, memory and focus and are known to boost self-esteem and confidence by promoting creativity and achievement.

Victoria is broadening its hate speech laws to include more types of discrimination, including disability. The new laws will make it illegal to promote hate or violence based on disability, with penalties for those who break the rules. The goal is to better protect people from hate speech.
