Queensland Government has a virtual emergency department that you can access from your own home for those times you’re not quite sure if you should attend the emergency department but you can’t get an appointment with your GP.

To use the service you must live in Queensland and have a device to have a Telehealth consult.

It is available between 8am - 10pm (7days).

If you have a life threatening situation call 000.

If you have kids at home, chances are you’ve heard of or experienced RSV 🦠

Respiratory Syncytial Virus is common, with children under 3yrs at the highest risk. It infects the airways and lungs, is extremely contagious and spreads easily. Similar to cold and flu, RSV is most common during cooler months.

Sadly, as the weather changes there has been an increase in respiratory illnesses including RSV in Queensland hospitals.

Below are the symptoms, preventative measures and how to care for your children.

Last week I had the pleasure of sharing important and relevant First Aid information with the Olive family.

Recently little Max had a nasty anaphylactic reaction, prompting the entire family to brush up on their first aid skills.

Max is currently undergoing testing with a specialist to establish what he’s allergic to. Pulse sessions provide valuable tools, information and demonstrations for parents with babies, including allergies.

Signs of anaphylaxis include:
🤒Swelling of lips, eyes, tongue, throat
🤒Difficulty breathing
🤒Wheezing
🤒Hives, welts, redness

🐍 With the increased media attention on snake bites in our region lately I am getting enquiries asking if this is covered in Pulse sessions.

🐍 YES! Snake bite information, pressure bandaging and practicing the technique is definitely included.

🐍 The session will take approx 2hours and cover Basic Life Support, CPR, choking, anaphylaxis, burns, seizures, head injuries, bites and stings and other traumas.

What would you do first if your child was choking?

a) Heimlich Manoeuvre
b) Slap them on the back
c) Encourage them to lean forward and try to cough
d) Offer them a drink to wash it down
