Courageous Coaching Courageous Coaching is a place where women can step into their power, create the best version of the Turning Point 1. Turning Point 2. Turning Point 3. single. day.

My name is Melissa Sheridan McNabb!

I am first and foremost me, a gifted individual with an old soul having a human experience. I play many roles, daughter, sister, wife, mother, colleague, friend, Aunt, Step Mother, Massage Therapist (to a small select client base) and Coach. To keep a long story short, I will share the most valuable turning points that have led me here now. Becoming a single mum at the age of 26 to 3 & 4yr old girls. This 7-year period of my life is where my life changed forever. I went from having no work history for the period of 5 years I was a "stepford" wife and stay at home mum, which made me unemployable, to studying massage at night so I could support myself and my children. I didn't rely on child support, in fact I didn’t want it because I wanted to be totally free of the person I came to learn through therapy had been emotionally and financially abusing me. It was a brave move, it took every bit of courage I had and there were times I didn't think I’d make it. I worked hard and after my first job, because of the qualifications I had I was invited to work with the Australian Kangaroos Rugby League team, NSW State of Origin Team and Country Origin Teams. I loved sport, I lived and breathed it since I was a kid and my goal with massage was to work at the highest level I could so I decided to specialise in Sports Massage for injury management and Prevention. To gain more versatility in my skills I started my own business and began pitching to other professional sports to be Head Massage Therapist. Under the guidance of Physiotherapists and Sports Chiropractors I was taught a variety of techniques to ensure the highest quality treatments, as well as developing my own through extensive research and case studies. I held the role of Head therapist for A1 Grand Prix Team Australia -2005, The Australian beach Volley Ball Tour 2006-2008, Rocket sports Racing Champ Car team – 2005-2006, as well as key roles with St Kilda AFL
Football Club NAB Cup 2007, and Various rounds of NRL 2007 until 2011 after I moved to Melbourne and began looking for an exit strategy. Working across such a broad range of sports allowed me to be more proficient and achieve successful results for my athletes both with injury management and performance. Having gone into Corporate Health and winning a Tender in 2006 with Qld Health to provide workplace injury management and screening for Qld Health employees allowed me to treat and manage workplace injuries. I have broad knowledge of health and wellness from all of this, not to mention the ongoing study I have done. In 2007 for the second time in my life early cell changes pointing to cervical cancer were found on my cervix. This impacted me in ways I never thought of because I hadn't questioned my mortality before. This time I did, I was a single mum with two small children. For the first time I was consumed by all the "what ifs" What if the worst case happens? Who will look after my children? How will they be provided for? It took this to realise that I had burnt myself out. This is when I started to think about winding back my hands-on massage and thinking about what else I could do. I decided to go back to Uni and study a Bachelor of Applied Social Science Counselling with Sports Performance. I loved learning about psychology and what makes people tick. I decided I wanted to do coaching and always thought because of where my career had taken me that it would be in sports. This period of my life taught me the value of being financially self-sufficient. I started to learn about money and finances. Sitting in a course last year on Speaker Training, workshop writing and facilitation with a man who has become somewhat of a mentor to me, I had been questioning what I wanted to be when I grew up. I knew that continuing with massage at the level I was would be detrimental to my health and health is my absolute highest priority so the question I began asking on the eve of 2016 was " How can put all my knowledge, skills and experience together to create something that contributes to making the world a better place and be financially viable?" The answer I got during that course, after getting deep into the heart of my soul I came up with a series of things that is being birthed under Courageous Coaching. I say being birthed because I’m not done. This is still evolving as am I. After coaching people over the last 4 years through health and wellness programs I decided this year to only work with mums. I have chosen to do this because I meet so many mums who have lost sight of who they are and it is getting in the way of them reaching their own highest level of personal significance. This breaks my heart because I know what it feels like to feel lost, to not know who you are and always be wondering if there is more to life than being shackled by the roles we play. Coaching may not be the answer for you, the workshops and programs I run may not be the answer for you but what if they are? I will leave you with this quote by one of my favourite women, Victoria Erickson and hope to connect with you soon. "Women are powerful, and I see them stifle this every. Stop looking to be saved and hiding your magic. Stop tossing aside your voice and valid emotions. Stop wasting your time with fake friends and chasing men like they're cures. Material things, better jobs, and other people- they won't fill your gap. Only you can do that. Life is short. Rise and step back into your awesome, innate power. You are compassion and creative force and divine life itself. You are a Goddess."

I have so much gratitude for each person that allows me the privilege of helping them create changes in their life and their journey of self discovery.

Receiving this beautiful message from an old client of mine who began with me back in 2005 was such a humble moment because it shows how much impact I had.

Having a positive impact in the lives of others is why I do this.

If you’re not already blazing your own trail, it’s never too late to start.

The first step is being willing to get off the road you’ve been on, the one you know is in front of you, the safe one.

This weeks edition is staying here for now due to having some beautiful spring upgrades done to the site.

What would you do if you had no fears?
I invite you to really sit with the depth of this question.

Many people, influencers, coaches etc usually ask “If you had all the time and money in the world, what would you do?”
I’ve asked this question of myself, and others over the years with the intention of finding clarity on the elusive life question “what do I want to do when I grow up?” The intent was to inspire dreaming big.

I’ve learned over the years that it doesn’t matter how much time and money a person has if they have fears dominating their decision making.

I have been exploring this word fear in the last few years and seeing fear in action on a large global scale has the world as we knew it almost extinct.

In forming a new relationship with fear, this question “What would I do if I had no fears?” has brought to my awareness some new and exciting paths in front of me.

I can reflect and see how I have let fears hold me back and they surface regularly. For example, I have delayed launching my new programs out of fear of being judged, fear of no one buying them, fear of not having the positive impact I desire. I have the tools to overcome this of course but as I am human before coach I have fears.
They are normal.
Learning to really dissolve fears through expanding my faith in all things is a daily practice I am undertaking so as much as I’d love to invite you to explore the question “what would you do if you had no fears?” I’d also love to invite you to practice dissolving them by having faith.

The context for faith here is varied because it means something different to everyone, for some it may be faith in god, others it might be the divine universe. Whichever it is don’t forget to have faith in yourself.

You can’t have courage without fear.

I invite you to be brave enough to take the journey towards yourself.

Having been on it myself almost two decades I can tell you it’s not for everyone, it take effort, guts and the willingness to ask yourself tough questions like this one.

Most people are afraid to meet who they authentically are out of fear (I have a blog coming on that topic)

So start with this question Who do I be?

Ask in the context of who do I be in relation to others?

Who do I be in relation to my responsibilities, duties and expectations?

How do I be with my thoughts, feelings and actions?

This question invites you to look at your actions, the action of how you be on a daily basis.

I’d love to know what you discover about yourself so please share in the comments or DM.

The secret of life, is your willingness to create.

What I mean by that is this;

The perfect partner won’t just appear in your life but the perfect person you can create a partnership with will.

The perfect family won’t just happen, the perfect people to create one will.

The perfect job, career or business won’t just appear but the opportunity to create it will.

How willing are you to be open to the process of creating the life you want?

Yes that does mean being willing to grow as a person because you take you into every aspect of your life.

So many people are so focused on seeking the perfect that they don’t see the opportunities in the present and I can tell you that the opportunities aren’t going to come gift wrapped with a card that lets you know, it’s more likely to be the gift, the paper, the card, the tape, the scissors and the ribbon then it’s up to you to wrap it perfectly and that may take a few attempts along with patience, you even even cut yourself a few times.

Life isn’t a straight smooth ride, it’s a winding road with pot holes, speed bumps and a rough surface but it’s your life.

What are you going to create?

Inspired by a post this morning shared about Earned v Deserved.

It’s been with me all day and it’s led me to have some really empowered conversations with people in life.

As a mum, partner, business owner, sister, friend, Aunty etc it’s easy, over time to reach a point where the feeling of deserving pops up. It really does have an entitlement feel to it when you give it a different perspective so I invite you to try the mind shift of replacing the word deserve with earned. It really does feel so much more empowering.

One conversation I had today was about how much time I had invested, sacrifice I had given (willingly) into raising up my family (23years) and how I have earned being able to prioritise myself even more, how I’ve earned being able to request more from others to willingly support me in achieving my big dreams.

The difference in how the request was received and the response I got, rather than a reaction was so amazing.

I invite you to give it a try. Let us know how it felt for you and what impact it had.

This quote has been on my mind these last few days and I have found it to be the case, that fear and faith cannot co-exist.

Governments and media have been fanning the flames of fear for almost three years now for one reason or another and the ripple effect of people choosing to allow fear to drive them is being felt in households around the world.

What if the masses fanned the flames of faith?

What if people chose faith?
would that look like to you?

As a human being and one that has her fair share of traumatic events, I’ve felt fear, I’ve chosen it, I’ve let it feed off me and those are the times when I sought the help of a counsellor and coach to help me gain the resources and tools I needed to be able to move onto faith.

I’ve been practicing that for 18 years now so o can easily catch myself and drop into faith.

What that looks like for me is saying out loud or writing down what I am grateful for, right in that moment.
Then I just have faith in the knowledge, skills and resources I have that everything will be ok.

I have faith that enough people will buy my products and services so I have the financial resources I need to run my businesses and take care of my family and household in the way I want to.

I have faith in my body that it will continue to show up for me and enable me to move in the way I want to that allows me to have adventures with my family and keep up with our grandchildren.

I have faith in humanity, I have faith that more people will choose faith over fear and the ripple effect of that will grow and the leaders the world needs to have in governments will show up and the shift will happen.

I have faith in this beautiful earth of ours, she is our biggest guide and she’s flexing. She doesn’t care about us, it’s not her job to protect us but if we treat her right and care for her she will provide essential resources for us.

I go through my list of things I have faith in and notice as the fleeting moments of fear fade out.

What do you do when fear shows up?

A little something I wrote.

Like many women, I didn’t know how much I didn’t know about money until life happened in a way that made me realise. This is what I call forced change. These are events that happen beyond our control and unexpectedly. These types of changes are the number one reason why women need to learn how t...

Priorities are what you DO.

They are not what you think or what you say.

If you want to check your alignment, flow or whatever other word works for you, take a look at what you do.

If you say something is a priority and your actions don’t support it, then it’s not a priority.

If you want to find flow and alignment, live your priorities daily. What I mean by that is each day, ask yourself “what is my priority today?” Focus on that, spend your time on that.

It’s amazing how much calmer and lighter you feel when your priorities are cared for.

Don’t forget to put yourself on your daily list of priorities.

Perspective is everything.

One of my beautiful friends and beauty industry expert shared this and if you’ve been following me for a while or have worked with me you will know this aligns 💯.

Reach out when you’re ready to really live and take stock of your life.

You can’t bypass doing the work but having a coach with plenty of tools helps make the process quicker and brings more ease into it.

Ahhh this word!!

Every time we use the word should we are sitting in judgment, whether that’s towards ourselves or someone else.

As you go into the weekend, keep an eye on your words, does this one come out?

If it does, take a pause and check in on who, what and where you are judging.

Awareness is the first phase in the change process and you cannot change that which you are not aware.

Reflections of the recent full moon.

Like all of life, there are seasons and cycles. The moon is a guiding light, even in the darkest of nights and a reminder that circles become whole, they begin again and life continues.

So much of nature is influenced by the moon, the tides, so many birds, animals and marine life as well as our human circadian rhythms. Let’s not forget, as women, our beautiful menstrual cycles.

The moon is a reminder that change is always happening, that it is circular so when you feel like you’ve completed one change there’s another one right there. This is a good thing.

What I’m going to teach in Change School is the 9 phases of the change cycle so you can learn to navigate the changes in your life with more effortlessness and have your own series of full circles.

What are you working on changing about yourself or your life right now?

How are you doing it?

Are you getting where you want to go?

What we do

Courageous Coaching is passionate about creating a better future for humanity so that generations to come have a chance at really experiencing peace and prosperity while having a healthy planet to live on.

We believe that women are the key to to achieving this as they have the most influence on what humanity will look like through their sacred role of motherhood and parenting.

We believe women are the key to achieving this through their natural abilities to create and lead with empathy, compassion and empowerment. Women have the potential to change the world and we believe by unlocking their creativity and helping them pursue roles that help them serve in a way that brings about fulfillment and change is a worthwhile pursuit.

We aim to help women discover who they really are once they remove the masks and roles they have. We aim to help women discover their hidden passions. We aim to help women feel confident, empowered and strong in an elegant way. We aim to help women let go of the need to fit into boxes, to let go of feeling restricted, to let go of patterns and cycles that hold them back and keep dysfunction repeating.
