I visited work today, for the traditional Christmas Breakfast. Having been on maternity leave since late October last year, it was so lovely to be with everyone again. Boy is motherhood lonely! That’s not a complaint, but rather, an observation. I was so ready for a change of pace, I hadn’t really considered how literally isolating parenthood was going to be. Next year, I return to work for two days per week. Between you and I, I think the oils are going to have to work overtime soothing my stress about leaving Oscar at daycare with strangers. He’s very easygoing and most likely, will settle in quickly. I might have to do a big oil order in January in preparation....

I didn’t participate in the Secret Santa this year, but instead, I made a beautiful gift to share with everyone!

Stress in the workplace is rife, particularly in a school, so made a self care station for our staff room. The matt black tray and glass dispenser were both from Kmart. In the dispenser, I mixed plain moisturiser with some relaxing essential oils like vetiver, cedarwood, lavender, bergamot and frankincense. It smells gorgeous! I created a little beaded decoration to make it extra luxe. I also blended five 10ml rollers for the station. Headache, immune, energy, happy and of course, calm.

I’m a very practical gift-giver, and I think we’re all going to be making great use of the self-care station next year!

Jewellery cleaning tip:
I soaked my watch band in a solution of 2tsp bi-carb, with equal parts water/vinegar and two drops of lemon oil.

I’ve worn my watch day and night since my son was born 13mths ago. I wanna know that it’s 2.35am when I feed, apparently 😂

Unfortunately, this heavy usage has made the watch band pretty grotty 🤢

Enter my natural cleaning solution. The watch isn’t waterproof, so I dangled it into the solution and secured it with a knife. Fifteen minutes later, there was an awful lot of gunk floating about. Better out than in 😆

I’m going to repeat this every month to keep on top of it, now I know it works!

I will try my rings next, I think 🤔

Ditching perfume and adopting essential oils is a healthy move!
Once I noticed how much I can change my hormones with essential oils I became very wary of putting perfume on my skin. If a few drops of this ‘n that with some carrier oil in a roller is powerful enough to overcome period pain, hormonal acne and improve my fertility, then the toxic ingredients of perfumes can stay clear of me, even in their small ‘safe’ amounts.

The happy diffuser blend I shared yesterday (made up in the reused 15ml bottle) also makes a very yummy roller blend.

To make this blend I used a 10ml bottle:
4 bergamot
4 orange
4 cedarwood
2 spearmint
1 litsea
And to make it luxe, if you have it, 1 drop sandalwood

Topped up with carrier oil (I love grape seed)

Amazing!

My ready made happy diffuser blend comes in handy. It smells so fresh and cheerful, I can’t get enough of it right now!!!

I add 3-4 drops to the cardboard core of my toilet paper rolls and enjoy the fresh aroma.

The blend contains
5 litsea
10 spearmint
20 bergamot
20 orange
20 cedarwood

I have reused an empty 15ml essential oil bottle to keep my blend in. The gorgeous ‘happy’ label is from my Cute Cubed label set (12pk $8, with free Aus postage).

Make some Happy Feet Spray - our feet take a beating in the Australian summer.

I have mixed up an oil blend to nourish and protect my feet. I apply the spray after I shower, and rub off the excess with an old hand towel.
In my 30ml bottle I’ve mixed 10 drops Tea Tree oil, 5 drops Clove oil, 5 drops Oregano oil, 5 drops Lavender with 1/2 fractionated coconut oil, 1/2 grape seed oil.

The ‘happy’ label is from the Cute Cubed Set (A$8 for 12 labels, FREE postage) from Cute Roller Labels, and the little foot was painted onto the bottle with some pink nail polish. Oh so cute!

An essential oil tip from my kitchen.

When I’m cooking and find myself without lemon, I substitute with a dash of vinegar for sourness and a drop of lemon for lemony flavour.

This works surprisingly well for curries and dressings.

It makes a great dressing for blanched green beans! Add a pinch of salt and pepper, a dash of olive oil or butter, a dash of vinegar and a drop of lemon oil. Delicious summer side ready in minutes.
