“And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, Speak to us of Children.
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.”

Ruby and her gorgeous bub Genevieve (Eve) have made some local history in Stanthorpe, with Eve becoming the town’s first water birth.🎉

Ruby said it was incredible that mothers in Stanthorpe were able to access such a service.

“I wanted a minimal intervention birth and I read into water immersion. I did find it helped a lot with reducing the pain with contractions and birth,” she said.

“To be able to go home the same day after giving birth here in Stanthorpe in the water, not being in any pain, and to be able to just enjoy the newborn bubble with my daughter was pretty special.”

Southern Downs Midwifery Unit Manager, Toni Randall said the milestone had been nearly a decade in the making.

“The midwives have worked hard to do all of their training so that they can be ready to offer water births,” Ms Randall said.

Since the birth of baby Eve, midwives at Stanthorpe hospital have supported two more mothers to give birth in water.

A huge congratulations to Ruby, Eve and the midwives at Stanthorpe. 🥰

From birth to 12wks
🌸Congratulations
🌸You have fed your baby and changed the nappy between
720 and 1080 times averaging 2-3hrly
🌸It has seemed like there has been no time for anything else
It has been exhausting with out much feedback from your baby to say thank you .
🌸Fortunately now everything will start to change as your baby starts to notice surroundings more .

🌸The circadian rhythm kicks in which means now your baby notices the difference between the dark night and daylight .
This may mean possibly sleeping just hat little longer between feeds over night . Giving you a longer time to sleep .
🌸By now your baby is smiling and focussing on your face much more.
Seeing your baby give this significant feedback to you is the best reward .
🌸You deserve this so much for all your constant nurturing and caring .
Enjoying and engaging from now on will bring so much joy in between the feeds and nappy changes .
🌸Congratulate yourself

Bright books, stacking rings and shape sorters are now being handed out at the Women’s – bringing joy to some of the hospital’s most vulnerable babies.

The toy bundles support families at the First Thousand Days Clinic. This service helps babies who were exposed to drugs or alcohol before birth.

Each bundle suits the child's age to help develop skills such as movement, communication, and problem-solving.

The toys provide families with easy, practical tools to support their baby's development during an important time for brain growth.

Every person will have a unique recovery after having a baby. The type of labour and birth you had will influence how you adjust and how your body recovers in the postpartum period🤰

You may experience vaginal bleeding, breast fullness, tummy cramps and soreness in your vaginal area or caesarean wound. In general, it takes about 6 weeks for your body to recover after giving birth.

Here are things you can do to look after your physical health after baby is born.

⚠️If you've recently given birth and notice any signs like a fever, heavy or smelly vaginal bleeding, pain or swelling around your stitches or scar, breast pain or lumps, pain in your leg, trouble with your bladder, or if you're feeling very low or finding it hard to cope — it's important to seek help.

Call your GP, maternity care provider or health service straight away. If you're worried or unsure, you can also call Pregnancy, Birth and Baby on 1800 882 436 to speak with a maternal child health nurse.
