We are pleased to announce we are now offering couples counselling at BN.⁠

Couples counselling is designed for couples seeking to improve communication, deepen connection, resolve conflicts, or navigate life transitions together. Whether you're in a long-term partnership, newly committed, or exploring your future as a couple, this session offers a safe, supportive space to work through challenges and strengthen your relationship.⁠

Led by experienced couples therapist Matthew Cicchini, the session focuses on shared goals and promotes understanding, empathy, and collaboration. ⁠

At BN, we have three types of psychologists: Provisional, Registered and Clinical.⁠

Provisional Psychologists have completed 4 to 5 years of study and are gaining practical experience under supervision. These sessions aren’t covered by Medicare, but we offer them at a lower rate. The cost is often similar to seeing a Registered Psychologist with a Mental Health Care Plan.⁠

Registered and Clinical Psychologists are fully qualified. Clinical Psychologists have completed additional postgraduate training and supervised practice. Medicare offers a higher rebate for Clinical sessions, which can mean a higher upfront cost compared to seeing a Registered Psychologist.⁠

We are excited to welcome Matthew to the Psychology team here at BN!⁠

Matthew is an experienced counsellor, couple’s therapist and provisional psychologist who has worked in private practice and community settings. He has extensive experience working with neurodivergent clients, and is trained in Gottman therapy, where he specialises in helping couples improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthening connection.⁠

Matthew also has a special interest in trauma-informed approaches such as Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to support clients experiencing complex trauma, PTSD, and anxiety. Matthew tailors his therapeutic interventions to each client’s needs and preferences, primarily drawing on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). ⁠

He centres his work on empowering individuals to cultivate greater self-awareness, supporting them in building the foundations for a fulfilling and flourishing life. ⁠

Matthew will be available for counselling/provisional psychology appointments and couples counselling every Wednesday from the 17th of September. Bookings can be made via the link in our bio.⁠

People get massages for many reasons, including relief, relaxation, recovery, or support with chronic conditions. But what actually makes it feel so good? Let's look into the science of it...🤓⁠

First things first, hormones play a big part! Massage helps your body release endorphins and serotonin, while lowering cortisol (the stress hormone). This helps to create that nice feel good effect.⁠

The nervous system also plays a big role. Nerve endings respond to pressure, pain, and temperature, which sends signals to the brain. Targeted massage can interrupt pain signals and reduce discomfort, especially when combined with those feel good hormones we mentioned.⁠

In addition, massage helps loosen tight muscles and boosts circulation. This increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the area, supporting the body’s natural healing process and restoring balance. Again, this helps boost that feel good state.⁠

Whether you're holding tension, dealing with discomfort, or simply need to reset, massage works with your body to help you feel more relaxed and more mobile. At BN we offer both remedial and relaxation massage types, depending on if you want targeted therapeutic relief, or a calming, full body experience.⁠

We are excited to welcome Chaille to the psychology team here at BN!⁠

Chaille is a compassionate and experienced psychologist who works collaboratively with individuals navigating life transitions, stress, anxiety, low mood & self-esteem, phobias, grief & loss, family issues and relationship difficulties. Drawing on evidence-based approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Motivational Interviewing, Chaille helps clients build insight, shift unhelpful patterns, and move toward more authentic lives.⁠

Chaille offers a calm, client-centred approach that prioritises safety, connection, and practical outcomes. Working with adolescents and adults, Chaille provides both in-person and telehealth sessions to support flexibility and accessibility.⁠

Olives!🫒⁠

Did you know olives have deep roots in history? Fossils from wild olive trees found around Italy and the Mediterranean date back over 20 million years (some reports even suggest 40 million years!). Evidence shows humans were using olives as early as 100,000 years ago along Morocco’s Atlantic coast, with cultivation beginning over 6,000 years ago during the Mediterranean Bronze Age.⁠

Still to this day, it is a staple of the Mediterranean diet, with olive oil used as the main culinary (or cooking) oil for all dishes - whether it's for dressings, frying, and even desserts! Rich in healthy fats, fibre, and antioxidants, olives are a fantastic addition to your diet, supporting heart health, managing diabetes, reducing inflammation, and possibly lowering the risk of dementia!⁠

Did you know Melissa Rubin, one of our dietitians here at BN, has a special interest in the Mediterranean diet and has done academic research in this area? If incorporating elements of the Mediterranean diet into your life is something you are interested in exploring, but you're not sure where to begin, a consultation with Melissa is a great place to start!⁠
