From wind and fussiness to reflux and constipation, most babies experience digestive ups and downs in the early months.

The good news? Gentle, nurturing touch can help.
Infant massage supports digestion by:
✨ Stimulating the vagus nerve (the body's “rest and digest” pathway)
✨ Encouraging healthy gut motility so wind and stool move more easily
✨ Lowering stress hormones that can worsen tummy discomfort
✨ Helping babies relax, feed well, and sleep better

Research shows that babies who are massaged may cry less, poo more regularly, and gain weight more effectively. Parents also notice something else: massage gives them a calm, practical way to comfort their child and feel more confident in the process. ❤

Massage is a safe, gentle way to support your baby's digestion and wellbeing while strengthening your bond.

Learn how with a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI) or Paediatric Massage Consultant (PMC). Trained professionals are available worldwide to guide you step by step in classes or private sessions, so you and your baby can enjoy the benefits together.

🎉 Congratulations to our newest Certified Infant Massage Instructors

Across 15 to 17 August 2025 at Castlereagh Boutique Hotel in the Sydney CBD, this cohort brought serious heart and skill. Backgrounds in the room included postpartum doula work, nannying, Child and Family Health Nursing, Early Childhood Education, yoga teaching, naturopathy, product leadership and a student in Early Childhood and Primary Education. The mix made for rich discussion and sharp questions.

What stood out?
👐 Confidence with hands-on techniques from day one. Minimal corrections needed and lots of purposeful practice.

🎓 Strong theory results. We marked the multiple-choice exam together on Sunday and the marks were extremely high, with three students scoring 💯!

🔍 Seeing the scope. The group moved from familiar benefits like bonding, sleep and easing wind, to how massage can also support preterm and low birth weight infants and their families, and how to personalise techniques for children with additional needs.

🌦️ A favourite practical was the “weather massage” for older children, blending simple storytelling with touch so parents can make massage part of everyday connection.

Shout-outs that made the weekend:

📌 Kath joined the class on Friday for a refresher. Lovely to have you back. 🔁

📌 Lucille came in to complete her final practical in person and is now certified. Well done Lucille! 🎓

📌 Kelly, we hope your neck is on the mend. Your persistence on Sunday, despite the pain, was impressive 💪, and your early childhood perspective added real depth to our conversation on adaptations. Thank you.

📌 Cassie, we hope your little one is feeling better 🤞 No doubt bub was thrilled to see you when you got home on Sunday. Your passion for ensuring all families have access to infant massage is beautiful. The Central Coast will be well served by your care and teaching. We can't wait to hear how you roll out your baby massage services locally.

📌 Molly, you showed real courage in the prac role-plays. 💛Congrats on a great result. Baby massage is going to complement your postpartum work perfectly.

📌 Jorja, your calm, positive presence 🌿 was a real addition to the course, and we're so glad you could travel to Sydney to be with us in person. We know you'll help many Port Macquarie families use massage to deepen attachment 💞 and support their baby's health and wellbeing.

📌 Mehru, your questions were spot on. They were always relevant and helped clarify the content for everyone. We're so happy you're following your passion for working with women and children. Your baby massage work will support so many mums and bubs 🤲.

You're all now ready to teach parents practical, evidence-informed techniques that strengthen attachment, help with settling and sleep, and give families a tool they can use through infancy into adolescence. A few graduates are already continuing on to our Paediatric Massage Consultant pathway, and all will have ongoing support from IMIS. 🤲

👉 Next steps if you're considering training: Sydney face to face: 6-8 February 2026 Perth: 12-14 September 2025 Brisbane: 17-19 October 2025 Melbourne: 14-16 November 2025 September and October online intakes now enrolling

Adelaide, that was a great weekend! 👏

From Friday through to Sunday, the last weekend in July was full of learning, laughter, and lots of love for infant massage. A huge thank you to Paula for leading the course with care and clarity, and to the students, what an amazing group you were!

The weather was wet, but inside the training room it was warm and lively. A big thanks to Paul and the team @ Majestic Roof Garden Hotel for looking after us so well.

This class had it all - students from different backgrounds, packed with knowledge and passion. Some were vocal and full of energy, others quiet and thoughtful. Every single one of you brought something valuable to the group. We're in awe of the insights and ideas you all shared.

A special shout out to Shallum, it was great to have another male voice in the mix! We loved hearing your thoughts on engaging more dads in baby massage.

And how could we forget baby Ava and her dad Jake? Ava was all smiles, especially when it came time for chest massage. She gave the clearest ‘yes' cue possible, with her little arms open, relaxed and loving it. Jake looked right at home learning from the students. A real highlight.

Belinda, thanks for calling the office with the good news... congrats on your team's win! What a way to wrap up the weekend. 🎉

It's exciting to see so many of you going on to complete the Paediatric Massage Consultant qualification. You'll be helping to spread the word even further about how massage can support babies, children and families.

To those of you already recommending the course to friends, colleagues and employers, thank you. It means the world to know you found it worthwhile.

You all left looking happy and proud, and you should be. The team here at IMIS is cheering you on. Stay in touch, we're here whenever you need support or resources.

📸 If you spot yourself in any of the photos below, feel free to tag and share - your story might inspire someone else to start theirs.

Today is Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day, a time to honour the strength, culture, and future of First Nations children across Australia.

The 2025 theme “Little Footsteps, Big Future” recognises the powerful journey children take, supported by family, community, and connection to Country.

At IMIS, we believe nurturing touch has a place in that journey. Infant and paediatric massage can help build strong bonds between children and their parents or main caregiver, support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and encourage connection. These benefits are especially valuable in trauma-informed care and early childhood health.

Thank you to the Certified Infant Massage Instructors and Paediatric Massage Consultants who support families through respectful, evidence-based, and culturally sensitive care.

Let's keep listening to children's voices, respecting their roots, and supporting their steps into the future.

🌏 Every Family is Different. Every Touch Matters.

Culture, language, identity, and life experience all shape how families care for their babies and how safe they feel to ask for support.

That’s why infant massage, when taught by a qualified professional, is never one-size-fits-all.

Certified Infant Massage Instructors (CIMIs) and Paediatric Massage Consultants (PMCs) are trained to work with families in a way that is gentle, inclusive, and culturally safe. Whether it’s in a group class or a 1:1 session, they help parents feel seen, respected, and confident to connect through touch.

🧡 Some families bring grandparents, speak in language, or incorporate cultural lullabies.

🧡 Others may prefer privacy, need time to build trust, or want to observe first.

🧡 Every approach is welcomed.

If you’re a new or expectant parent, you can connect with a certified instructor in your area.

If you work with families, through a clinic, parenting program, or community service, you can contact a local CIMI or PMC to refer families for support or host infant massage sessions in your setting.

💡 Respectful care builds stronger bonds. Let’s make it accessible to every family.
