Want to learn more about conducting research in the clinical setting?

Introduction to clinical research for healthcare professionals: Monash Physiotherapy Short Courses

The Department of Physiotherapy at Monash University are offering a new introductory level research course designed specifically for clinician healthcare professionals. This course will introduce participants to a range of essential research concepts underpinning the development of clinical research projects.

The full-day face-to-face workshop will involve a combination of theoretical and practical tasks supported by online resources and clinical case studies spanning a range of research methodologies and clinical practice settings. The workshop aims to support individuals to develop their own project idea(s) into future research proposals, however is designed to cater for people both with and without prior research experience.

Exercise to Optimise Balance, Mobility & Fall Outcomes for Older People

Are you a clinician, allied health or fitness professional prescribing exercise to older adults? Join us at Monash University’s Peninsula Campus for a practical, evidence-based short course that will:
• Explore the mechanisms of balance control and the problem of falls
• Apply balance-specific exercise intensity measurement skills
• Learn about reactive balance and floor-to-stand training techniques
• Explore strategies to engage and retain participants in fall-prevention programmes

A/Prof. Christian Osadnik and Dr. Melanie Farlie are offering a new introductory level research course designed specifically for clinician healthcare professionals. This course will introduce participants to a range of essential research concepts underpinning the development of clinical research projects.

On the 13th of November is a full-day face-to-face workshop which aims to support individuals to develop their own project idea(s) into future research proposals, however is designed to cater for people both with and without prior research experience.

What to expect:
This workshop will cover the following topics themed around four session blocks:

1. Research ethics and question design:
Ethical principles
Defining answerable research questions
Searching medical databases

2. Critical appraisal and evidence synthesis:
Quality improvement and clinical audit
Bias and spin
Evidence synthesis (e.g. systematic reviews)

3. Study design and data collection:
Qualitative and quantitative study designs
Outcome measurement (e.g. validity, reliability, responsiveness)
Survey design and implementation

4. Data analysis and application:
Common statistical approaches
Data visualisation and analysis
Developing a research proposal

Introduction to clinical research for healthcare professionals

2024 Monash University Workshop now open for registrations.

Monash University is once again running their popular workshop entitled 'Introduction to clinical research for healthcare professionals'. This is designed specifically for clinicians in order to bridge the gap between clinical practice and research, and strengthen collaborative partnerships between the healthcare services and Monash University.

The workshop will take place at Monash University Peninsula Campus (Frankston) on Friday March 22nd, 2024 via face-to-face format from 9:00am - 5:00pm AEDST. The workshop has been developed and will be delivered by co-convenors A/Prof. Christian Osadnik and Dr. Melanie Farlie from Monash University Department of Physiotherapy, who combine over 40 years clinical and research experience. This workshop is suited to any healthcare professionals who have an interest in clinical research or a responsibility to undertake quality improvement activities. No prior experience is necessary. Please note, this workshop does not focus on clinical drug trials or offer 'Good Clinical Practice' certification. We would like to encourage you to share this information with your multidisciplinary healthcare colleagues (e.g. other heads of department and internal staff) and consider printing the flyer for display on any appropriate notice boards.

Finally, in order to maintain COVID-safe practices, registrations will be capped to the first 30 with masks provided if desired.
