Why does bruising appear after a muscle strain? 🤕🟣

After a muscle strain, especially a moderate to severe one, you might notice bruising that worsens over the next week. This is completely normal.

🔍 What’s happening?
The strain causes small blood vessels within the muscle to tear. This leads to internal bleeding under the skin — what we see as bruising.

🕐 Why does it spread or get darker over time?
Gravity causes the blood to track down through the tissue, so bruising may appear below the actual injury site and become more visible days later.

💡 Key takeaway:
Bruising doesn’t always mean a worse injury, but it’s a sign that there was some bleeding in the muscle. A proper assessment helps determine the severity and guide your rehab plan.

📢 Fear & Pain: When Caution Becomes a Cage

🧠 Pain is complex. Fear makes it worse.

I recently saw a lovely woman in the clinic who’s been struggling with a flare-up of severe back pain, with pain referring down her leg. It first happened over 10 years ago, and the pain lasted two full years before improving.

So when it returned 6 months ago, it understandably brought back all the fear and anxiety she had experienced before.

Now? She’s so fearful of movement that:
* She avoids lifting even a bottle of milk
* She’s terrified to bend or twist
* She’s stuck in a pattern of protecting her body to the point it’s making things worse

🔍 What we discussed:
Being cautious after an episode of pain is completely normal — your body is trying to protect you.

But when fear stops you from doing basic, safe movements... it can fuel the pain cycle:

* Muscles weaken
* Stiffness increases
* Confidence disappears
* Pain becomes more persistent

💡 Key message:
“Movement is medicine.”

Gradual, guided movement — even when it’s a little uncomfortable — is often what helps the most.

📣 If you’ve been stuck in a cycle of pain and fear, you’re not alone. And you’re not broken.

⚽️💙 Back Where She Belongs 💙⚽️

Huge shoutout to Hannah who made her long-awaited return to the field today with after a tough ACL rehab journey. 💪

She’s worked incredibly hard to get back to doing what she loves, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Moments like these are what make it all worth it — even having to get my own sweat on to join in some of the rehab with her 😜

We love seeing our athletes thrive again. 🙌

🍪 Emotional eating, boredom snacking, and a disrupted routine can sneak in easily.
