The Illawarra Family Medical Centre was formed in 2005 with the merger of three established local general medical practices. IFMC offers Disabled Access.

The Illawarra Family Medical Centre provides a modern, exceptionally well equipped and professionally staffed facility to General Practitioners, Specialists and Allied Health Practitioners. Its founders conceived a vision of a modern, purpose-built facility providing consulting suites, staffing and services to general medical, specialist and allied health practitioners, who in turn serve the local community with dedicated and expert care. (one block east of The Wollongong Hospital)

PRACTICE HOURS

Open 7 Days
- Monday-Friday: 7:30AM – 6:30PM
- Saturday: 9:00AM - 4:00PM
- Sunday: 9:00AM - 1:00PM

PARKING

Free, ample and secure undercover parking is available for all patients on Basement Level B2. Entry to the car park is via Khan Lane off Denison Street. Please obtain a ticket from the security guard for free parking. Disabled parking spaces are provided. Disabled access to IFMC is via the lift from the car park or ramp
from Crown Street. Take the lift to Level 1 for IFMC. IFMC is easily accessible by bus. IFMC is on the free green bus route. The closest Bust Stop is Wollongong Hospital. It is then an easy 2 minute walk to IFMC. IFMC is easily accessible by train. The closest Train Station is Wollongong Station. It is then an easy 4 minute walk to IFMC.

Important Notice Regarding Script Requests and Staff Conduct

Due to an increase in verbal aggression and rudeness directed toward our hardworking reception team, we wish to remind all patients of the following script request timeframes:
• HotDoc requests: 3–5 business days
• Telephone requests: 3–5 business days
• If these timeframes do not meet your needs, please book an appointment.

Zero Tolerance Policy
IFMC takes its Zero Tolerance Policy very seriously. Our receptionists, nurses, and senior administrative staff must not be subjected to rude behaviour, intimidation, raised voices, or name‑calling. These behaviours are unacceptable under any circumstances.

Understanding Script Requests
We understand that things happen - holidays, unexpected needs, misplaced paperwork. Lost, damaged, or poorly managed scripts by patients, carers, or loved ones can occur, and we recognise that these situations are stressful.
However, these issues are not the fault of our staff, and they do not change the required processing timeframes set by our GPs. Yelling at staff, demanding immediate assistance, or saying “it’s just a script” is not appropriate. Our team follows the policies and timeframes set by our GPs, who take every medication request seriously. Script management is not a “one‑minute job” or a simple matter of pressing print.

For safety and clinical reasons, patients must have had an appointment at our practice within the last 3 months - either face‑to‑face or via telehealth - to be eligible for a repeat script request.
If you have not been seen within this timeframe, you will need to book a full consult with your GP before a script can be issued.

Our staff are human beings who work hard to support you. Please treat them with the same respect, patience, and kindness that they show you every day.

The Illawarra Family Medical Centre was founded in 2005. We are a traditional family medical practice.

Our Doctors deliver high quality family medical care from a modern, exceptionally well-equipped and professionally staffed facility.

IFMC is independently owned and operated by local Doctors Rene Dostal, Peter Allan, Gary Butler, Ian McCorkindale and Michele McGrath.
