A modified low-dairy ketogenic diet may improve quality of life and motor symptoms in people with Parkinson’s disease.

In a recent 12-week study, 12 participants with PD followed a supported low-dairy keto plan.

They stayed in nutritional ketosis, tracked their intake, and completed regular lab work and functional assessments.

The results were encouraging:

– Better scores in movement, balance, and gait
– Improved quality of life
– No increase in constipation
– All participants lost weight
– The diet was both feasible and well-tolerated

This approach may offer the benefits of a traditional ketogenic diet without the risks associated with high dairy intake.

Huge shoutout to our very own Romilly Hodges CNS for helping to lead this important work.

👏 Huge thanks to Sarah Game MLC, Tim Jaeger, and Dr James Muecke for driving the push to remove corporate conflicts of interest from health policy!

At the Australasian Metabolic Health Society, we strongly support these reforms. By standing behind leaders and advocates like these, we can ensure change takes effect—improving the health and future of all Australians.

Presentation Update!

What an incredible experience presenting at ADC today alongside my wonderful co-presenter, Beth McNally.

Our session, “Exploring Therapeutic Carbohydrate Reduction in T1D: Practical Strategies for Diabetes Educators”, drew a packed room of CDEs, GPs, endocrinologists and other health professionals.

Not a spare seat in sight! The audience was engaged, curious, and full of thoughtful questions. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a lively and insightful discussion.

AMHS Ambassador James Muecke strikes again - this time "slamming slams ‘religious roots’ of anti-red meat medical advice"

A former Australian of the Year claims medical institutions are continuing to spruik dietary advice that ultimately comes not from medical research but the visions of a Seventh-day Adventist Church prophet back in 1863.

Dr James Muecke, an ophthalmologist, fronted the AMA National Conference in Adelaide this month, advocating low-carb, “real food” diets that included red meat.

“The idea that red meat is bad for human health dates to the middle of the 19th century and was championed by Ellen G White, co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church,” Dr Muecke told doctors.

Ms White believed that God flooded the Earth because humans “ate animal food and gratified their lusts until their cup of iniquity was full” and only allowed omnivorous diets afterwards to shorten humans’ “sinful lives”.

According to HARVARD red meat CAUSES TYPE 2 diabetes.

I’m at the checkout at Cole’s and no one is selling me steaks here for half price.

I’m not from Harvard but I’d bet a billion dollars red meat does NOT cause type 2 diabetes.

It’s the sugars and starches

Presentation to the Victorian Parliament…

I was honored to deliver an address at Victorian Parliament House this week, along with my colleagues Sports Physician Prof Peter Brukner from Defeat Diabetes and Sam Stuk, Low Carb Dietitian from The Nutrition Code and the Type 2 Diabetes Remission Clinic at Royal Melbourne Hospital.

We explained the origin and drivers of Victoria’s chronic disease crisis and delivered our recommendations for a multi-pronged strategy to reverse it.

Thanks to the Victorian Health Minister and Shadow Health Minister for coming along and showing interest in the failing health of the people of their State.
