Hearty news! 💓 Medicare-subsidised Heart Health Checks are secured until 30 June 2028.

A Heart Health Check is a 20-minute consultation with your GP to assess your risk of heart attack or stroke. Based on the results, your GP will work with you to reduce those risks through positive lifestyle changes.

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common type of newly diagnosed cancer and second deadliest in Australia. While a large majority of newly diagnosed bowel cancer cases occur in people aged 50 years and over, 1 in 9 Australians diagnosed with bowel cancer are under the age of 50 – thee disease does not discriminate, affecting people of all ages.

It is recommended that people travelling during the influenza season receive a flu vaccine.

Australians who have received a current southern hemisphere flu vaccine and are travelling later in the year to the northern hemisphere during their flu season (usually October to May) may receive a second dose of the flu vaccine before departure.

Ask your GP about the recommended immunisations to stay healthy during your travels.

People with certain medical conditions are at higher risk of complications from the flu and are encouraged to get vaccinated for the best protection. The flu vaccine is free for people aged 6 months and over with one of the following health conditions:

June is Bowel Cancer Awareness month. Bowel cancer is one of Australia's most treatable cancers. Yet, it is our second deadliest cancer, claiming 101 lives every week.

Watch for B.O.W.E.L. symptoms – if they persist over two weeks, see your GP immediately. Early stages may have no symptoms, so regular screening is important.

No one knows your body better than you. If something feels off, consult your GP as soon as possible.

RSV immunisations are now available in Australia. urges all Australians to embrace RSV protection to reduce the virus’ impact to our most vulnerable.

RSV immunisations can protect infants (administered directly or via the mother during pregnancy), older adults and people with underlying health conditions.

Even healthy people can get the flu, but individuals with compromised immune systems are are especially vulnerable. Most people will recover within a few weeks, but some can develop complications including sinus and ear infections, pneumonia, and, heart and brain complications.
