Blood cancer symptoms can be easy to overlook, but it’s important to pay attention to changes in your body. 🔎

Some common signs include unexplained weight loss, fatigue, frequent infections, easy bruising or bleeding, night sweats, shortness of breath, and unusual lumps or swellings.

If you notice any of these symptoms, talk to your doctor.

Robyn is a volunteer at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital (WCH).

With a background in teaching, Robyn wanted to give back after retiring, using her skills to support children and families during what can often be an anxious time.

One moment that has stayed with her was seeing a family she knew from Ronald McDonald House arrive for surgery.

Robyn says, “The look on Mum’s face when she recognised me was lovely, just a little connection that she found reassuring in a stressful time.”

“As a volunteer I feel immense pleasure and purpose in the role I play at the hospital. Feeling like I’ve helped someone, even just a tiny bit, is very rewarding.”

Thank you, Robyn, for the warmth and positivity you bring to the Women's and Children's Health Network.

A hospital stay doesn’t have to mean missing out on Book Week magic.

That was certainly the case for patients at the Women's and Children's Health Network last week, as they dressed up for a parade around the hospital to celebrate.

Patients were joined by some very special guests, including Snow White, Spiderman, Ariel and Bumblebee.

The Book Buddy Program also brought the wonder of reading right to children’s bedsides, thanks to support from Starlight Children's Foundation Australia and WCH Foundation.

Thank you to Hospital School SA, WCH Foundation, Starlight Children's Foundation Australia, and Make a Smile Adelaide, for bringing the fun.

This just in: Q-Tips are plotting on your downfall.

Ear wax plays an important part in keeping your ears clean and healthy.

It usually comes out on its own and doesn't need treatment.

Using cotton tips in the ear can disrupt the self-cleaning process and cause ear wax build-up over time.

If you notice any build-up that's bothering you, ask your GP or pharmacist for advice.

When Javale sustained a traumatic brain injury, he was placed in an induced coma for 3 days while the swelling in his brain subsided.

He slept through much of the next 2 weeks, with his parents and sister by his side.

Just weeks after his injury, Javale celebrated his 13th birthday in hospital with loved ones by his side.

The Women's and Children's Health Network helped him celebrate with cake, presents and custom t-shirts with his name.

“It was the most memorable birthday for us, but for Javale, he can only remember it because of the photos that we showed him,” says Javale’s mum, Teresa.

“Javale is doing well with his progress, and we are all rooting for him that, in time, he will get his full healing and recovery. It might take a long road, but acceptance and understanding are needed for him to surpass this.”

Thank you, Javale, for sharing your story.

Goodbye winter, hellooooo hay fever season. 👋

Hay fever can be triggered by seasonal allergens like pollens and grass, or year-round triggers like dust mites and animal fur.

It can cause a runny nose, itchy eyes, and sneezing.

Most people manage hay fever by avoiding allergens in their daily life, and with medicines such as antihistamines and nasal sprays.

If your hay fever symptoms are ongoing and affect your day-to-day life, speak to your GP.
