Sea Shanti

Sea Shanti Sea Shanti is an Australian owned small business based in beautiful Hobart, Tasmania. Our Hand Crafte But when it comes to nutrition, nothing beats seaweed!!

In 2011, Rita, Tanya and Dermot joined forces and Sea Shanti was born. Back then, we were just three good friends, who across cultures and languages, shared a certain craziness for seaweed. Thanks to the sushi revolution, we realised that people in western countries were ready to start embracing seaweed! As people with a passion for good health and nutrition, we were captivated by seaweed and its abundant nutritional qualities. We all eat broccoli and spinach and some of us love kale (yes we do!!). The more we read about it, the more remarkable we found it to be - a "multivitamin made by nature" - we wanted to play a role in encouraging people to make it part of their everyday lives! Our strong ethical interests directed our emerging business model - our products would need to be 100% natural, something we'd be happy to feed our own kids. We would need to donate a percentage of our profits to the conservation of marine habitats that so generously supply our beautiful sea plants. Our products would need to be made with love and care, in a place that respects and looks out for its team. After a number of fun visits to South Korea, our business took shape. We developed our products, which are all hand made, 100% NATURAL and created with the finest quality ingredients, with no artificial chemicals or preservatives. From day 1, we have donated 5% of our profits to Sea Shepherd Australia to support their awesome work in protecting and conserving marine wildlife and habitat. We are now available in stores across Australia and New Zealand, with our distribution network growing every day. Watch out Uk, we're on our way :)

From homonids to homo sapiens... Did seaweed and it's unique content of essential nutrients play a part in human evolution? The science is out... Eat more seaweed. Your body and brain will thank you!

Millions of years ago something happened, allowing early Homo sapiens to branch out from the primitive hominoid family tree. Was this crucial turn in human evolution partly driven by seaweed and its particular content of essential nutrients?

Have you tried the Korean version of sushi?
"Once you gimbap, you can’t stop" ;)

Steamed white rice with various fillings all wrapped in seaweed - sounds like a Japanese sushi roll, right? Well, this Korean version definitely stands on its own.

It has been quite a crazy 24 hours since I posted this shot on my Instagram account of the Cascade Brewery with the first snow of the season on top of Mt Wellington (not the first snow of the year though - that happened in February), which I captured yesterday morning here in Hobart & Beyond. Thank you so much for all the fantastic feedback, comments, messages and emails that I have received. Hopefully the coming winter will bring plenty more opportunities to capture many more unique shots in Discover Tasmania.

This is super cool!
The clever dudes at Skipping Rocks Lab, a London based startup, were recently awarded the World Technology Award (environment) for this awesome seaweed-based innovation!

Ooho! is a new kind of packaging made from seaweed that proposes an alternative to plastic bottles. Our spherical water container is easy and cheap to make, strong, hygienic, biodegradable, and can even be eaten.
