If you’re new to meditation or looking for a gentle way to unwind, a body scan relaxation can be incredibly beneficial. It’s a guided practice that helps release physical tension, reduce stress, and bring a sense of calm by tuning in to each part of the body. ✨

Check out my video here for a simple body scan practice: https://youtu.be/AsH291AIcOg?si=q-fkW2qsBPcs3-rD

6 months since my accident, I wanted to share an update, especially for those who’ve messaged me that are dealing with TBIs (Traumatic Brain Injuries). It feels like this journey has been easier for me than some, so I want to offer a real, balanced account of my experience.

My days are carefully planned, and I can only work a few hours, including teaching, emails, and planning. My occupational therapist helps me structure my week to ensure I rest before and after any activity. Even attending my son’s soccer game requires recovery time afterward. Every outing demands planning and recuperation, and I feel like I only have a third of my usual day.

If I overdo it, the headaches, neck pain, and dizziness (which are still always there) increase dramatically as my body’s warning to stop. I’ve also had to accept medication to help regulate my central nervous system, though I believe it contributed to my fall and foot fracture.

Rehabilitation is a big part of my routine. Between neuro-physio and orthoptist exercises, I make time for Pilates, yoga, and nature walks (though Pilates is my go-to now with the foot fracture). I’m grateful that my memory for teaching hasn’t been affected—it’s in my body! My neck fractures and shoulder are healed, though I still can’t sleep on my left side and have some shoulder and neck pain. But I’ve rehabilitated myself in six months, not the 12 initially expected.

The TBI and dysregulated autonomic nervous system are the most debilitating aspects. People can’t see it, but I mix up dates and numbers, struggle with memory, and have brain fatigue. Recovering from a TBI takes years and teaches patience. I’m grateful for my progress, though it’s hard to remember those early weeks due to amnesia.

To anyone recovering from a TBI: rely on feedback from others to recognise your progress, even if it’s hard to see yourself. It’s normal to have setbacks, and recovery is not linear. Be kind to yourself.

To those supporting someone with a TBI, please be patient. What seems small to you can feel overwhelming to us and can derail our entire day. Your understanding means more than you know.

About Aspire to Well-being

Aspire to Wellbeing is a private studio in picturesque Crafers, just 20 min from the CBD. Offering clients a holistic approach to wellness, fitness, and weight-loss, through personal training, pilates, nutritional guidance, yoga and meditation .

About me...

I acquired an early passion for movement, particularly gymnastics and dance, and went on to complete a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Adelaide University, graduating in 1995. During this 3-year degree, I was introduced to a daily yoga practice in addition to learning various dance styles including classical ballet and modern dance. Theory components included anatomy and biomechanics, which combined with Pilates, established a solid foundation of human movement, with emphasis on technique and alignment. I respect that well-being is more than just fitness, and so completed a Bachelor of Nutrition so that I may further support my clients in the well-being journey.

I draw from my experience as a yoga teacher, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and Pilates coach, to provide sessions that are specifically tailored to my client’s needs. I love to connect with my clients, and to teach movement with correct technique, so they receive the most benefit and ensure longevity within their training. With more than 2 decades in the fitness industry, I have trained people from many walks of life ranging from athletes to corporate groups. Every individual is unique, and there is no one size fits all. This is why Aspire to Well-being supports clients with a variety of training styles, and holistic services.
